Trazodone no help sadly

Ruth had been taking trazodone for a month - 50 mg to start with, then 100 mg. She does sleep better but the downside is that she is more listless and dizzy during the day - just wants to stay in bed, whereas normally she still would be more active. She stopped taking it and tried to go 'cold turkey' - but immediately could not sleep and started having bad waking dreams at night. She tried taking zopliclone, but that only helped for a couple of hours each night. So she is back on the trazodone for the moment, but she is going to come off it and try sertraline 50mg. Hoping it brings some relief!

I have been on 100mg Trazodone for a few months now and I seem to have escaped Ruth's problems.

Reading online reviews it seems that there are many differing reactions .

I hope she will find something that suits her.

All love,

Patrick.

Patrick,

It was you who inspired me to give it a try. As you say, different people different reactions. But I do not know how much is down to the progression of the disease itself. Ruth maybe having a downturn - just hoping it isn't the case. Thanks for the kind words.

My wife suffers from PSP. The first symptoms (difficulty speaking as if she had a stone in his mouth and a slight tremor in the ring finger) will be presented in March 2012. The definitive diagnosis was in June 2015 (Difficulty in eye movements).

Palliative medication against depression and insomnia: 1/2 Sertraline-50 at breakfast; 1/2 Sertraline-50 to food; 1 Lorazepan-1mg one hour before dinner.

As Carehoop said: Sertraline (Zoloft) may take several wks before being effective.

Drops of tear to the eyes.

Each patient seems to have similar symptoms but their appearance, intensity and sequence seems to be specific to each patient.

Various medications have been tried for pain episodes. There have been some side effects such as confusion and daze, especially with opiaceous. Currently when an episode of pain arises we use progressively: Paracetamol, Nolotil in capsules and if the pain is acute Nolotil in glass ampoules. All under medical supervision.

We found great help information In the comments of the members of this great association -HealthUnlocked- and also the web "CurePSP": psp.org/ has been of big help.

I hope and I wish these notes are useful.

Thanks for that. It is really helpful. It seems to be a case of getting the right mix of drugs so that she is not anxious and does sleep. But somehow while trying not to increase the general feeling of confusion and dizziniess that the disease is bringing. We will speak to our GP about it.

Hi Richard ,

My sister ( with PSP ) is taking Sertraline ( Zoloft ) 50mg twice a day. She also takes a low dose of Xanax ( Alprazolam) 0.5 mg at bedtime . In addition, A. Is taking Elavil 10mg in the morning and at night. Regarding the Zoloft, A. started with a lower dose, but her anxiety level continued / increased so her neurologist increased the dose. In A's case these interventions have made a positive difference. So, putting it out there in the event that Ruth might want to give any of these a try. You do need to be aware that the Zoloft may take several wks before being effective.

Best wishes to you both and hope that a good fit can be found !

Elise,

Thanks that is really helpful. I have looked them all up on Wikipedia and will discuss with Ruth's GP next week.

My wife takes a very small dose of mirtrazapine (7 1/2 mg ) ,generally speaking she sleeps well .She takes it at bedtime it knocks her out ...In larger doses it is an anti-depressant .don't think a larger sleeping dose will work better cause the drug doesn't work that way....good luck ...jeff
