Mum's mouth is open pretty much open all day. I'm worried it'll dry out as she already has a peg and is nil by mouth. Any tips welcome.

Get some mouth swabs and try and keep her mouth moist. Nothing will keep it shut. Sorry

Lots of love

Thanks Anne we're doing that at the moment. I guess I was hoping for something that doesn't exist.

I hope your coping after the passing of Steve xx

Oh yah the mouth shutting...She no longer has much control over those muscles and thus keeping mouth shut is also nil. but the swabs are useful...I think I for a few minutes each day I actually held B's mouth shut by holding his chin up with my thumb.....yes I did do that several times a day...usually when I could stand the show he was watching lol....I would sit with him and massage his jaw and hold his chin.....wow memories come a flyin back....good ones.... :)

I just bought a headband and put it under his chin during the day to help with the slack jaw, the pain is awful. I guess the "lockjaw" is coming?

Thanks Cuttercat.

The lock jaw another thing to dread in PSP.

Has anyone ever had success in getting a person with PSP to be able to open their mouth after the teeth have locked together? My husband had Botox injections 2 weeks ago with no improvement. It’s very bad today

There is an oral sponge it looks like a lollypop sort of; and you can use it to stimulate gums and brush teeth. Ask your speech therapist or doctor if it is ok to moisten it with water (I mean slightly moist) or another gum reliever don't know there may be a glycerin...

For B I used these swabs with just a bit of water. He was in an upright position and I gently massaged his gums twice a day morning and night....We also had a suction machine so that if he started over=salivating, he/I was able to control the amt in mouth.

Again talk to your medical team , but that's what I did

Good luck
