Clicking jaw: Has any body experienced this... - PSP Association
Clicking jaw
You've been to the professionals who should have more answers than I, but here I go...The clicking could be a little bout of TMJ....it's a disruption of the muscles surrounding the jaw bone that connects to your head....If they are too tight they can pull on that joint and every time you take a bite, it clicks. Thats a MILD case. It can cause massive headaches and the inability to move your jaw fully. Your dentist should've picked it up IF it was that. The production of too much saliva may be that he is not able to swallow his saliva and thus pools in the mouth, or in my husbands case , down the outside of the mouth. If the jaw is not hurting him too much, I would not worry terribly...However I would have a swallow study done by SALT team to see if his epiglottis is working to close off all food and liquids from getting into the windpipe. If it is not working, you might want to have a conversation about a PEG tube which goes straight into the stomach . You then feed him liquid nutrient through this tube to prevent him from having to swallow and choke. Not everyone gets the PEG, but choking is definitely a PSP thing.
That's all I got , I hope it helps a little. PSP is daunting at least; exhausting and sometimes downright horrifying. Preparing yourself helps get through it easier is suppose...Let us know how he's getting along...and you to must take care of yourself...getsome rest.

My hubby had clicking so i asked for scan and found the mechanism wasnt working properly which worsened to the extent his mouth or teeth now only open about half inch. Hope your hubby doesnt have this. Too many problems arising down the line. Marie

My husband doesn't have clicking as far as I am aware. He has started to grind his teeth however which he never did before or if he did I never noticed! He has lost one tooth and cracked another and has two bottom teeth looking like they are going to cause problems. When I mentioned it at the Care Home I was told it would be over £80 just for a visit to see my husband and they had no idea how much it would cost to sort his teeth! They said it would be better to go to the hospital but it might take 3 months for an appointment to come through. They are annoyed with me because I told the doctor they are not cleaning his teeth. True! Truth doesn't go hand in hand with Power however?
Incidentally does anybody know if the patches they are putting on his neck to stop his drooling can cause vomiting if missed? They missed a patch the other day and I told them but I was snapped at and told it was the night staff who dealt with that...not true! Anyway he vomited the following night. Don't know if they had put the patch on or not by then. They said if he vomited again they would call the doctor. That would have meant hospital almost certainly!
The other Marie!

I've just asked me if he grinds his teeth he said not the district nurse has just visited and is investigating the clicking will let you know if I get any answers she has just put in a request for the patches for excess saliva so will make sure he doesn't miss any thank you for the info x
Can you ask that they leave a patch or two with you so that if one falls off, gets pulled off or like what you just discussed...gets forgotten, you can put it on. Theres nothing very invasive to it so it should be rather easy...
just a thought
