clicking sound

My husband is making a gurgling/clicking sound in the night. Has anyone experienced their spouse's doing that. I do not think it is aspiration phenomena because wouldn't he have green phlegm coming up first. Any advice?

S is just the same. Sometimes I think a tap is dripping, but it's him. Or there is a constant squeak. Like every other muscle in the body, the lungs are sufferering has well. Another wonderful symptom of PSP, I suppose as long as the lungs are clear, it's one of the less harmless ones, even if it can be annoying at times!!!

I have noticed that his breathing changes to very loud and seems to be laboured, if he is trying to communicate with me and I haven't noticed.

Lots of love

No green phlegm with my guy's aspiration pneumonia. The suction machine is helping him deal with all the gooey saliva (?) that he produces at night, but it's awfully noisy one way or the other!

Take him to the dr. If you have a speech path, take him to them. Is it only at night in his sleep? We haven't experienced this, just choking which suction machine has helped amazingly!

We do not have a suction machine. Might have to check into getting one. It does sound bad, but he said it does not hurt. He has run out of the med that dries him up.

Mthteach my wife has an increasing saliva issue at night which causes wheezing which occaisionally causes a choking. She coughs up a white mucus during the day never green yet. She has been in Glycoperonium Bromide since last March it worked at reducing and controlling saliva until Christmas when effects wore off even at max dose. We are now waiting for Botox to the saliva glands in Feb. Botox is supposed to be 80% successful in controlling saliva and hopefully reducing possible aspiration, hopefully I will have good news in March.

My wife had a slightly raised temp and poor breath control under stephascope, doctor gave her a course of penicillin which bucked her up and more aware which also knocked the temp back it did nothing for the saliva or night wheeze.

I would suggest you have your doctor check his temperature and lung function regularly as any infection will initially register as a raised temp or reduced breath capacity, hitting an infection early stops complications and also uses less drugs.

Best wishes Tim

Tim, my husband is on hospice now. They keep a close eye on him. He only takes 1 or 2 mg of the Glycopyrrolate. How high does the dosage go? I have heard of the Botox, but we are not there.

According to the drug info enclosed with the tablets max dose is 8 per day taken across the day not in one go. We found that the drug starts losing effectiveness after about 6 to 8 weeks so we increase it usually half a tab a day extra so we have now reached 8 tab a day since New Year, I have tried reducing the dose but the saliva becomes full on all the time at least with the glyco she has periods when the drool stops for a couple of hours. Hope Botox on saliva glands work as she gets very tired wiping her mouth all the time and stooping forward all the time. Hope your husband continues without infection. Best wishes Tim
