Hello, my mum was diagnosed with bile duct and liver cancer stage 4, with a prognosis of 6months maybe a bit longer. We have had a wonderful summer but 17 days ago our GP said she had a chest infection. On admission mum decided that she did not want the infection treated as she was told it could cost her life. As she was not eating much and feeling very tired all the time. Mum is 82 and always been very independent not had any treatment only palative care for her cancer. She also had a pacemaker fitted last year. So consequently she also decided to come of all her other drugs for her heart and blood pressure and blood thinning Medication. It's been at least 20 days since mum has eaten anything no ensure drinks nothing. She is sipping water but I personally don't think enough. She is sleeping more so obviously she doesn't drink when she is asleep. Her tongue is coated with thrush but doesn't seem to be able to take liquid medicine. It's just an emotional rollercoaster that we are on. Hospice seem to think she is stable but I see a slow deterioration. They want us to start looking for a Nursing Home. Please please has anyone out there experienced this. My heart is breaking in two x

Sorry, can't advise. My Dad had secondary liver cancer and died quite quickly. So never got to the nursing home stage. Certainly I would take all the advise you can get from the Hospice.

Sending big hug and lots of love

The deterioration of our loved ones is so hard to watch, isn't it. I am sorry you have to go through this . But remember that physical death will ultimately win over our lives. We must be prepared for this truth.....no an easy task when it's happening...Your mum has made a decision to continue giving up this world.....Though your heart is breaking, at least you can be with her as she makes this arduous transition. As this is a site for PSP, it is difficult to guide you in what your mum is experiencing. However death comes to us all and all we can do is be spiritually and emotionally prepared. So I will leave you with some scriptures that hopefully comfort you.

My condolences to you and yours as your mother passes from this world.
