Was anyone given lyrica for psp pain and what were your side effects? I am starting to think this very expensive drug does nothing for my Dad.

What is LYrica supposed to do for your dad?

His GP perscribed the lyrica because he said my Dad had nerve pain. I am leery about its effectiveness, since he wasn't a neurologist. I can't tell if it helps to some degree or if it if just totally useless. It does make you sleepy and can make you depressed so I stopped giving it to him in the morning. It can add to his confusion.

Is your father communicative. Can you ask him if he has pain. My husband has a diminished sense of pain...which is good and bad...He certainly does not need Lyrica, but he cannot help me if something needs to be fixed.

I would definitely talk to your dads Neuro about this med....

Yes. Thanks. He can tell anyone about his pain and he does. It is almost his biggest issue, next to difficulty in transferring and the constant urge to pee. I am going to definitely ask his neurologist. I am getting a new one, since we didn't have a good rapport with the one who diagnosed him. The trouble would be getting off now, I wonder.

Generally Lyrica is used for diabetic nerve pain, I believe, but can be used for other things involving pain.

Unfortunately I've never heard of it but would be interested to know what it's for.

I guess it depends on the type of pain one has. My husband used gabapentin, a old medicine (and a lot less expensive) that is also used for nerve pain. It worked to some degree, but for his pain I found acupressure which I could do, magnesium oil massaged, etc. as effective. I must say I am biased. I am very cynical when it comes to Big Pharma. The more advertisements the higher my degree of scepticism.

My husband is also on gabapentin for nerve pain. Has been for about 5 years. It does help with the pain, doesn't make it go away, but will make it tolerable. He has no side effects with it either.

I hear you . meds are pressed as the only way to treat soemthing. I would go for a massage any time....I have had acupuncture and was amazed at how it helped me..good ways to help with pain!
