Found something that stops my shaking, for short spurts at least.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson in 2013. My main symptoms are shaking and my balance is terrible at times. I walk like I am drunk a lot of the time. I am having a terrible time taking meds for the shaking without awful side effects. By accident, I happened upon something by accident that will completely stop my shaking for a while. It is adult coloring. I get exhausted from the shaking so I start to color and it completely stops. The coloring is suppose to be relaxing and it is. I use to do it a long time ago but then couldn't find any books until a short time ago when I saw it advertise on TV. As much as I shake, I didn't think I would be able to do it but when I use my hand for certain things, the shaking stops so thought I would try and it stops, whether it be for 5 minutes or 5 hours. I can't help but wonder why and wonder if I could train my brain not to shake my body, if I color long enough. I know even when I'm not coloring, my shaking has improved. I am posting one I have done. Doesn't look like I have Parkinson. Has anyone else tried adult coloring?

That's amazing. Have you shared it on the Parkinson's site? My husband has PSP but doesn't shake although many symptoms are the same as Parkinson's. I'm sure other folk living with Parkinson's would live to hear this. You may have made an important discovery.

Very best wishes and keep colouring. I'd love to see the next one.

Is this the methyl blue colouring?

You should read up on magnesium deficiency too. :)

Good luck.

Hi there, I am a carer for Ben, my husband who is a PSP sufferer. He doesn't shake but don't think that colouring would be of interest for him but it is for me as his carer. There are now lots of adult colouring books in stores, I had one for Christmas along with a beautiful box of crayons. They claim to help stress by keeping your mind 'in the moment' mine was from the local garden centre and there were at least 15 to choose from. Haven't actually tried them yet but seeing your post has reminded me to try. Spent hours 'colouring in' as a small girl so am sure I will enjoy it. Kate x

I also had one for Xmas but not had time yet to try it .

The tremor eases when u grip something , I think the usual rule is if you tremor all the time even when you are holding a cup even driving . The tremor doesn't stop . This is called essential tremor .

in Parkinsons it's what's called a resting tremor . One you grab hold of an article or use it it stops or at least eases .

Good for you, keep coloring I think you are training your brain....movement is so important to keep the neurons firing/ properly

This is exciting. So happy for you. Just to share something...my mother had such difficulty speaking as she couldn't remember the words she wanted to use. BUT-when reading material was put in front of her she could read as if there were no concerns. Of course this was when she was still able to talk. Makes you wonder if the brain needs a break from thinking so hard. Coloring makes complete sense. Thanks for sharing.
