Does anyone find the excessive drooling to be a problem and if so to what degree. How do you cope with it?

Yes. I understand it's not uncommon with psp, although I don't know why. The neurologist suggested Botox in the salivary gland and we will be trying that at the end of July.

Yes a problem for my husband always had a wet tissue in his hand. while I dressed him I got wet.We spoke to the neurologist and she suggested SCOPODERM a travel sickness remedy. It has been successful the only time drooling happens is directly after drinking especially fruit juice but it soon stops.Scopderm comes in a patch form and is worn for 72hours and then renewed I hope this helps you too. My husband has 3mls of Glycopyrronium Bromide under his tongue 3 times a day. I have to use a syringe (without the needle) to administer it. I didn't think it made much difference but when I forgot to give it to him, the drooling was definitely worse. I have bought him adult bandanas from the Internet and if we are staying in, he sits with a tea towel across his chest. He did have Scopoderm patches for 6 months but then became allergic and blisters formed where the patches were. When he stopped using them, the hallucinations he had been having also stopped. I hadn't connected the two but they stopped instantly the patches were no longer used.

nana John was exactly the same , about two hours after putting the little patch behind his ear he was off , He got in a dreadful state with I lasted three days even after I removed the patch almost straight away . john does appear to be very sensitive to certain mess the . he couldn't tolerate the drops under his tongue either I believe his were hyosime.

so he drools continuously now . Very wearing for him and I am up and down all day trying to keep him comfortable . he even has trouble reaching for a tissue then finding his mouth to op it up . on top of that hi hands don't work properly to release the tissue .

Hi M had excess saliva, the SALT team recommended scopoderm but one patch caused major balance and sickness. This is due to the fact it acts across the blood brain barrier and has different affects on neurolical conditions, so we did not use them again, their next recommendation was glycopyrronium bromide. This is not on NHS general drug list and needs a consultant recommendation so get it through your neurologist. Recommended dose was 1a day for a week increasing over Month to 3 a day. It worked very quickly and we have taken 6 months to get to max dose. Initialled swallowed but now crushed and administered through PEG tube. Needs to be checked quickly as if drooling is swallowed it can set off choking.

Best of luck Tim

Botox. And we find that it helps with swallowing also.

I just started to have some drooling. I mentioned it to my doctor and she told me when it becomes s problem, she could give me something for it. Didn't ask her what as it is not a problem yet, but you should ask your doctor .
