Hi all, as you all know Rose my sister is very frail now and on comfort feeding her swallow is bad. Nursing home have moved her to a down stairs room which is good as she is more accessible to staff. They are talking about giving her breakfast in bed then maybe getting her up later on in the day. They tell me she has a red sore patch on her bottom and find it easier to keep her in bed as it is easy to turn her there? She has no meat on her bottom now very thin.Any one got any comment on this? Thanks.
Bed sore.: Hi all, as you all know Rose my... - PSP Association
Bed sore.
As long as she is turned often in bed, it may indeed be better for her than sitting on the one place for hours, I imagine. Bed sores can be extremely hard to deal with, painful and not inclined to heal. I'm not telling you anything you don't know, I'm sure, just reinforcing. Love and peace, Easterncedar
Im sorry to hear about Rose, prevention is the best thing that can be done for Roses pressure ulcers (bed sores).
There are pressure relieving mattresses, cushions for wheelchairs, regular rolling/moving. As well as the carehome home nurses do you have a consultant / nhs input? As the nhs community tissue viability team could help by doing an assessment and getting a suitable plan/equipment in place.
below is the nice guidance on pressure ulcers, which is very helpful.

I hope you manage to prevent Rose getting one. The only down side to bed rest is It is very lonely in a room on her own, we used to ask if the room door could be left open so there was some interaction with people passing and for some of her friends to visit.
Best wishes nanny x
Thank you, she is quite poorly got a call yesterday to say her temp was up and her swallow bad they could not get any thing in to her. Doctor came and she is on an antibiotic possible urine infection.I have had a vomiting bug that is going around although I feel better today but can't visit her too risky need to wait another day.
Hi Nannygoon, when Roisin started to get sores on her bottom and on her spine, we found that an oil called Sanyrene was very effective in dealing with them, just a few drops at a time rubbed in gently. The sores cleared up in a two or three days. But I think easterncedar is right about the need to move Rose regularily, even if just to stand her up, supported of course, for a few minutes at a time, to help her blood circulation, and certainly to turn her over regularly. In the hospital I noticed that nurses would turn Roisin every three hours, day and night.
Best wishes, Christopher
Thanks Christopher I think it is inevitable that she will have sores as she is so thin now as she is eating very little now with her swallow and yesterday doctor was called she has a high temp they have given her antibiotic possible urine infection! I can'see her bouncing back from this.
I found that the thicker the ointment you apply to the sore spots the better they will heal and not get worse. Just gob the ointment on very liberally. Jimbo
