I have been going to an optician but my glasses don't help much. Thee are specialist ones called 'Eyes on Oxford' here in Perth - they are consultants to Parkinsons & I wondered if they might help me- does anyone in W A know them ? if so can they recommend them? TIA Marytea13
Eyes: I have been going to an optician but... - PSP Association
Eyes
My eyes have been the worst of my problems. Almost lost my eyeballs because of the dryness. Once that was corrected with lots of over the counter drops, salve at night, steroids, a humidifier, omega three, and now restasis, I began to see a little more clearly. I've tried different types of glasses, single vision, bifocal, reading only, and the kind with the Prisms. I've tried elevating my reading material on my lap. Nothing is perfect, but beats losing my eyes. I watch a lot of TV and it isn't all bad that I can't see it that well. Let me know if you find anything new. Good luck!
Tz2388 I hope us read my recent post - I will follow up with the "Eyes on Oxford" here in Perth WA as I had read that they do make lotions creams to help with the dryness & If necessary are allowed to prescribe for eyes - I postedasI wanted to hear from some one here in Perth maybe I will! marytea13
Bonjour,Marytea.I don't want to put a damper on your hope to solve eye problems... that maybe a specialist optician can make you a pair of magic glasses that will make you see better.
I'm going out on a limb here, Marytea, by saying 'No-Way' the most brilliant Optician can help.
Remember the 'S' in PSP stands for Supranuclear ..in itself an opthalmologial term. Simply stated the TAU protein 'responsible ' for PSP is nibbling away at the optic nerves. Not in Parkinsons Disease.
So eyeglasses can't keep up with the degeneration.
If an Opthalmo or Optician hasn't ever heard of PSP ....one will prescribe the other will make a pair of useless spectacles. Waste of time and money
My late wife had the same problem . We spent a small fortune going round the opticians shops....to no avail. Plain sunglasses are of course useful in the Aussie sun...but bother to have any made to your sight.
That 's why I want every optician in the world to know what the symptoms of PSP/CBD are.
And if one day they are confronted with a client for whom they can't make prescription glasses....
they can advise the client to go see a Neurologist for a PSP diagnosis.
Sometimes Prism glasses can help if the patient is abed...and can read or watch TV more easily.
Again ,sorry,Marytea to be negative...
ultramodern thanks for your message I am not so naive as to think an optician can do much for my sight with PSP but the place "eyes on oxford" make things that can help the dryness better than over the counter products - I was hoping someone from W A would answer my post as they may know or have had experience with them mmarytea13
Was kind of a negative post, but after trying so hard and spending so much just to keep hopes up, after a while, you just realize that clear vision is pretty hopeless for most. Sorry, Jill and Tal
