Bon courage!

Christopher.

I know that feeling. Mucho sympathy. Today will be much better if only on the grounds that it can hardly get worse.........can it? Hang on in there.

Hi Jill well my wife's dementia has increased over the last few weeks and yesterday was an especially bad day . She is obsessed by what is happening and when and pours endlessly over her calendar but quite often on the wrong month . Yesterday she constantly asked me the same question about who was coming and when - in fact it was the community matron who is not coming for three weeks but my wife couldn't grasp the right time dimensions. All day she constantly called me from whatever I was trying to do to sit down with her and "go over a few things" which I did but she couldn't retain or understand it so we just went over and over the same stuff until I really couldn't take any more . By the evening she had changed or rather I had , her shoes several times as her feet were cold - the n her trousers . finally she wanted to watch something on TV but switched it off as soon as it came on and then wanted a program which ended several weeks ago - hence my awful day comment . I know everyone has some days that are worse than others and I take heart from all the kind words of support - but last night I had just had it . Better today thanks (so far !) All the best Georgepa

Thanks - crushing cardboard sounds good to me . I have to say it is a lovely sunny morning down here in Devon and that always lifts my soul a little - yesterday was that all enveloping drab greyness which seems to eat into you and permeate your innermost being.

This is my first post and I too have had another bad day. My husband P had a fall at 4am (had to get the ambulance to get him up) then when we went grocery shopping - at his insistence - he would not wait for me to fetch a wheelchair and got out of the car himself, only to fall again ! He now has a black eye etc. We are waiting for a respite bed (none available of course). He has had a suspected UTI and has been incontinent as well as his dementia being really bad. It seems he has completely fallen apart in the last 2 weeks. I feel I just can`t cope at all.

Yes its difficult to understand just how rapidly things can change - keep posting here as you will be amongst likeminded and sympathetic souls . Georgepa.

Hi Georgepa,

I had the same sort of day as you ,I was accused of trying to overdose my husband with paracetamol and he wanted me to take him to hospital so that they could see that I was trying to poison him.He also took off his wedding ring and said that he would not wear it anymore as he did not like the person who gave it to him! I asked who he was talking about and he said the name of his first wife.I felt absolutely devastated, I am wearing the ring now as he still refuses to wear it even though I have told him I gave it to him 32 years ago.I now realise as you do that his dementia is getting worse as he continually spouts figures at me,all his life he has been in accountancy and pensions.it is very wearing especially as I can't understand what he is saying. After all the upset he turned round and said how much he loved me! Georgepa I am sure I have your phone number I will be in touch ,I too live in Devon.Hang on in there.xx

Hi Pippalina How I sympathise with you - my wife who I have been married to for 47 years can say some very cruel things but you just have to try and shrug it off and remember its the illness but its not always easy to do especially when you are tired . Do give me a call if you want to. All the best and aren't all the people here supportive I don't think I could keep going without them. Georgepa .

Yes, it's comforting to know that you are not the only ones who seem to be falling apart at times ,I sometimes feel very guilty about the way I react it is comforting to know that others feel exactly the same. When you think of what we have to cope with without any formal training I think we are all brilliant! I will be in touch.xx

It is a comfort to know I am not the only one who struggles to manage at the moment, yet all my life I`ve been the one who copes with everything and does it all. I hate the way I feel at present. Thank you to all who replied I truly appreciate your support.
