Amantadine Shortage

Is anyone else experiencing difficulties obtaining Amantadine? I phoned round 14 pharmacies yesterday trying to find a branch with stock. I am told that the manufacturers had a dodgy batch and will not be producign more until mid August.

Hubby has only just been diognosed so not on meds yet. (Having to bee weaned of sinimet first) dont sound to good if you cant get the meds hope you get yours soon

There have been issues in the UK obtaining Amantadine. If you take amantadine and are still experiencing problems sourcing this, please ask your prescribing GP to contact the PSP Association’s Helpline and Information Service on Tel [phone], or email [e-mail]

We have now been told that the Amantadine capsules are no longer being manufactured and that we will only be supplied will the syrup form in future. I appreciate that the medication is the same but it does mean that I now have to pour the syrup for Maureen when she could take the capsules herself. Does anybody know whether the change is permanent and why the capsules have been discontinued?

Yes. My husband has the Amantidine syrup as he has his meds through the PEG and there is no info on when that will be produced. Have contacted numerous pharmacies, chemists on line, private chemists, the Parkinson's charity, PSP. Association all are at a loss as to why it has happened and when it will be available again. Have been in touch with the manufacturers who have given a number of dates when the capsules will be manufactured again. Lots of reasons have been given on hoe the problem has arisen which I won't go into now, so I think it is about pressurising the manufacturers and waiting! If I get any further info I will post it here.
