It's just another thing that some people have tried for PSP. It's kind of like the coconut oil that people were talking about and taking. Some suggested things are not tested officially so to some extent you are flying by the seat of your pants in trying them. Also very important. PSP is NOT a one-size-fits-all disease. Patients can react differently to things. What works or seems to work for one person may do nothing for another. Example: Carbadopa/Levadopa (Sinimet) works for some period of time for SOME patients but not for others. Some patients get a symptom early on while others don't have it until later or perhaps never. In PSP you are dealing with the brain and the Tau creating PSP may not be in a part of the brain for one patient over another. However, try whatever you think might work (Turmeric, coconut oil, CoQ10, etc. etc.) Jimbo
I give my hubby 4 tsps of coconut oil and do all my cooking in coconut oil. Turmeric is used in our Indian cooking every single day. Hubby takes multi vitamins after lunch and syndopa / sinemet 3 times a day. Since he was freezing whilst walking, the neuro suggested amantadine. 1/2 tab once a day after breakfast to start with. I started it yesterday morning.
Afternoon he slept just for an hr and night time he slept from 11 pm to 2 in the morning. Then drank almost 2 big glasses of water and was wide awake till 530 am. Also very restless. His right hand was trembling a lot. Plus he was having some facial spasms/ tics.. Was a bit scary. Anyway gave him syndopa at 530am. He passed urine and then peacefully dropped off to sleep, waking up at 730 am. The
,trembling also stopped once had passed urine.
Am at a loss.. What is happ? Msged the neuro who told me to stop the amantadine.
Our neurologist suggested Amantadine but said it had side effects so we decided to not use it. My wife is not mobile so we didn't see the point and didn't want side effects. Jimbo
Swill Miss, Whatever you think might help is worth a try. My neurologist said there is some indication that CoQ10 may help for a short time. Turmeric on the other hand may not help and there can be tolerance issues with it. As I said if you think something might work try it. Just keep in mind most things will work for a period of time but not long range. I wish there were some "silver bullet" for PSP but there just isn't, yet. I remember when my dad had shingles bad he tried lots of things on them. He even tried WD40 and peanut butter. LOL Jimbo
\\well jimbo if we all try enough we might just crack it and find a cure that would be great wouldn't it mate sounds like your dad was a bit of a'' slippery customer'' a jim wd 40 and peanut butter but its like you say you will try anything if you think its going to help excuse the pun mate how is Sharon going now \\ok I hope peter jones queensland Australia psp bloke and trier of most things bUt never trIed peanut butter and WD 40 YET its alright jim I have a funny sense of humour mate
Yes, we tried the Q10 too with my Mom Irene, even her doctor prescribed some for us to help us but the dosage had to be quite large - I used to order large tubs from the USA. I am convinced it did help her (mind, not body) and so did her GP and the district nurses. We were just trying out Turmeric in 2010 when she passed away, I had bought some Turmeric capsules and was working out the dosage though by then her swallowing was a little too bad to take them and I couldn't get it down the PEG either easily. It's interesting to see that more people are using it now and I look forward to seeing what effects it has.
We do have CostCo here too in the UK (in Birmingham) and I shall have a look out of interest for the liquid form of Q10.
I give my husband turmeric and coq10. He is on 800 mg coq10.
I read to give up yo 1200.
I have also read that megadoses of glutathione actually heal brain cells. Thought about injections but early stages of CBD and seems not to be progressing too quickly.
I would love to stay in touch with how your natural treatment seems to work.
I AM SCARED OF THIS JOURNEY and hope I can slow it's progress
After reading a lot of articles and especially an article by Sharon Comden, Dr.PH, I have my wife on the following regime:
Before Breakfast she takes: 400mg of Co Q10,250mg of Vitamin C, 500 mg Nutrivene Longvida Curcumin followed by a slice of toast with a coconut oil spread. (Can be replaced with a fish oil).
After breakfast she takes 200mg of Madopar.
Midday meal she takes 200mg Madopar
Evening meal she takes 200mg Madopar.
Before supper she takes 200mg CO Q10, 250mg Vitamin C,500mg Longvida Curcumin followed by a slice of toast with coconut oil as a spread.
After supper she takes 200mg Madopar.
Whether to take before or after a meal seems to be important as it enables the medication/supplement to be absorbed more easily.
The Madopar is the original medication used for her Parkinson diagnosis but helps reduce any tremors and seems to strengthen her legs.
If you send me your email address I can forward to you the article mentioned at the beginning.
