Made a bold move today,We bought a motor home (new to us) and are going to do some traveling while my husband is still able.I have never drove a large motor home but I will give it my best try.Not sure how long he will last but at least its better then sitting here waiting.

you can handle it \just allow a bit of room when turning for the length of your motor home i have a 18 foot 8 inches caravan i have just been up to Rockhampton aprox 700 klm away from me but i just took my time going up there \\\ there was no hurry and i felt good so off we went i\ might add some years i have belonged to a caravan club and just recently got my badge for 100 rallys thats going on one rally a month anyway thats digressing a bit but you will be fine after as little while you will feel as though you were

How wonderful! I wish my hubby was well enough to do it. Sadly he's in a nursing home now as I was unable to care for him while undergoing my chemotherapy. It was a very hard decision but he is settled there. Unfortunately his PSP is accelerating far too quickly. I see you live in BC. One of our daughters lives in Abbotsford. The last time we visited was 2009 and we toured all over. What a beautiful, beautiful country. We always said that if our lives had taken a different path we would have moved there. Make the most of every minute you have with your hubby and enjoy your new motor home. I am really envious. Best wishes to you both and please keep posting on the site to let us know how it's all going. Take care.

I hired one about two years ago and as soon as I saw it nicknamed it "the monster truck". Didn't realise what was in the brochure would turn out to be so ginormous!! (?) (My cousins & daughter all put in request for one that would be big enough to not hear me snore.... Nice one people!!...)
Anyway - I became reasonably used to its width and length (or other drivers and my passengers got used to me - depends how you look at it!) Those over hanging trees - well that's another story.
Anyway the point of the story is we 'all enjoyed ourselves and have some very happy memories' and I am sure you will too!

We were lucky enough to have a small motorhome while Tony was OK to drive.
He was never a good passenger but as the PSP progressed, one day he said he didn't feel able to drive any more. The Caravan Club etc here run "manoeuvring courses" - the one I went on had two other lady drivers and a chap who had just changed from towing a caravan. We learnt some useful tips that day - including allowing for those pesky overhanging branches ..
You will have some fabulous memories to cherish.

What a fantastic idea. You do not have to go far at first, just get used to the mobile home and enjoy little excursions. I am sure you will both have lots of fun and pleasure and that's what it is all about!

Very best wishes in your travels it is very important to keep your husband fully involved in everyday life and to have him participate in as many activities at this time. Take along binoculars and if possible a spotting scope and a bird guide for the birds that are in the areas that you plan to travel to and share the fun a challenge of identifying the different species of birds that you see. This was one of the activities that my wife shared right up to the last days of suffering from PSP. You can both enjoy this activity and create a bird list of those that you both could identify.

Hi Diedre, Brilliant! Go for it. We always said we'd get a motor home when we retired. When my husband was first diagnosed I suggested getting one but he said he had changed his mind so we didn't. It may have been because he was no longer driving and didn't fancy me doing it as I hardly ever drove our car. I would loved to have bought one but it's too late now. Have a wonderful time with it and collect lots of brilliant memories.

Well Done!!! How hard can it be, if a man can do it, so can you! I'm doing loads of things I never thought I could do, or even wanted to. Some I can do fine, others, well let's say the jury is still out. My husband and I travel to South Africa regularly from England. We bought a house a couple of years ago. We are going to keep going as long as we can. Yes, sometimes it's hard, but so is sitting here at home, it's just warm than UK, which helps S!
I'm sure some will be negative, please, please, don't listen to them. Life was designed for living and the clock is ticking, not just for our husbands but us as well!
