My husband has been taking it since the beginning and does it do any good, he still gets dizzy, has black outs and every time I ask the doctor, the answer is "its the disease" I am getting frustrated.

My wife, soon to be 87 years old, has had PSP for over eight years. Her initial problems were stiffness in gait, dizziness and falling backwards. She was first prescribed Carbidopa/Levidopa and after about 5 years during which the condition became worse, the Dr. changed to Stalevo 200 which is Carbidopa/Levidopa plus Entacapone. He discontinued it in June of last year and her condition has not changed since then. She is wheelchair bound, has severe vision problems, is speech impaired, some difficulty swallowing(we must thicken her liquids) and has some cognitive difficulties. I hate to burden you with this but these are some of the problems that occur as this terrible disease progresses.

Len 23 Thank you for your response, all of what you described has already happened to my husband. You are correct, we have been living with this for three years and I pray to God that it does not get much worse,

The best way to find out whether Co-careldopa/Levodopa are doing anything for your husband is to discuss it with your GP and then slowly wean him off the drug, and monitor whether his condition deteriorates. We did this in my wifes case and it was soon apparent that she was in fact getting some benefit from the medication to the extent that not only did we restart, we also increased the dosage.

My husband was diagnosed with PSP in October 2010. He took Sinemet which is Levodopa based I think. After three months and with increasing dosage, there was no difference in his condition so the consultant said there was no point in taking it any more. He has not been given any medication since and I would say he is at the end of Stage 2 overlapping with Stage 3. He refuses to take any antidepressant and the strain on me is becoming unbearable.
