Darryl- this is a great conversation. Thank you for posting it. It hit so many notes that I’ve experienced, personally, as I recovered from my RP. I appreciated your thoughtful questions, and the dialogue with Dr. Gaither. I am struggling with this topic here & now.

Do you have, or can you point me towards additional resources for gay men who have had RP and are trying to find their new sexual normal?

Thank you for addressing these issues. I have had a RP and am devastated. I was most interested in the last question of what he would like changed. He spoke of the heart of the matter. I think it important, particularly for those of us of a certain age, that it be acknowledged or realized that "gay" is a huge part of who we are. It is how we identify. I can say without reservation that my surgeon had no interest nor abilities when it came to the huge transformation that is about to taken. We often identify as our sexual selves first. We are gay. The loss of sexual function is much bigger issue I am guessing in the gay community.

I had a PR aim 2017 when I was 54 and my surgery said I was his first Gay patient ( that he knew of). My surgery went fantastic and I’m so grateful. I have no issues at all the only difference for me is when I climax I don’t physical ejaculate but I do pre ejaculate. That being said my Dr had or has no clue how to treat (medical) gay men or talk about what’s important.
