My name is Ken and I am retired with my super partner. We take classes locally, enjoy theater and museums as well as socializing with gay and straight friends. My prostate surgery was in May 2013 with Dr Patel in Celebration Florida. Happy to share with the group where I have learned so much.

Hi Ken Cute photo :>) How frequently do you have your spa checked after your surgery?

For two years I went back to my surgeons office every three months and now need to get set up near me here in Vero Beach. I went for robotic surgery in Celebration over an hour away. I need to get on this as I tend to procrastinate! My Dad did radiation long ago and is 96 now...a good survivor!

Ken,

Welcome to the group.  Yes, please do get on your PSA tests.  Unfortunately approximately 30% of men who have had primary prostate cancer treatment do have a recurrence.  This statistic is across the treatment spectrum.  The more time out the chance of experiencing a recurrence does diminish, but it never goes away.  I had a recurrence at year 5 and I know some men who have had a recurrence after 10 years!  Catching a recurrence quickly is important as it still gives the possibility of putting the cancer into long term remission.

Thanks, Joel I will get on it next week. I am very good about it but once I get going....just been lazy about it lately!

Hey Ken, I am looking into Hifu right now.  There are so many options for this cancer I feel like I am shopping for a used car.   Everyone pushes their deal.  I am taking my time and going to be sure for whatever I do.

That is the right idea for sure. I was going to have my urologist here do my surgery until his friend and my primary care Dr had me check out Dr Patel at Celebration hospital who had done 5000 robotic prostate surgeries. It was right for me at the time three years ago and he has a great team. There is lots of good advice in this group. The best advice I got was find the best doctor whatever course you follow. My Dad had radiation years ago here in Melbourne and is now 96. Best of luck.

Ken
