My 4K score results

This is my first post . I am 67 , had a stable PSA of around 6 for over a decade. Since my test last year it shot up to 8 in Feb. I scheduled an appt with a urologist referred by my primary. After telling him my symptoms , he wanted to schedule a biopsy with MRI ASAP. After reading here and elsewhere , I decided to ask some questions. I also , concurrently, made a lot of lifestyle changes ( dropped hard liquor, cigars, red meat, cut coffee in half, started eating a lot of colored veggies and salmon. Doing several targeted nuraceuticals. Drinking fresh Vegetables juice and a LOT of water) Many of my symptoms improved in one week, perhaps suggesting they were diet related? Urologists says diet won't fix it. But he agreed to a 4Kscore test . Got back the results : 4k score of 9, Free PSA of 1.35 and Free PSA % of 18. What does the collective mind in this place think of that score relative to my risk for an aggressive Gleason 7+? Thanks for any input.

Get the MRI. It’s noninvasive. Will help a lot in making future decisions.

PSA alone is not a good diagnostic, or prognosticator for PCa risk. There's so many thing which can elevate PSA numbers, suppress them too. Other issues such as age, family history, general health must all be considered. And outside some probability that your elevated PSA is due to something known, then additional testing may be done to eliminate those concerns. As noted, an MRI which is non-invasive could help. Ultimately, I would think that might be a prudent suggestion.

Good Luck

Your insurance may not pay for an MRI at this point, but it would be a non invasive test. Otherwise get biopsy. At your age an elevated PSA is normal.

Medicare pays for part of it. out of pocket is reasonable. I think an MRI is a rational approach as it was scheduled by my Uro.
