Covid-19 may increase PSA in men with prostates

It has been found to migrate to the testicles and the prostate in monkeys 1 and 2 weeks post infection. They used a PET scan to detect the virus.

This is not yet peer-reviewed, but it is probably a good idea to wait at least a month after infection to get a PSA test.

Dam! I’m unvaccinated with a prostate. The plus no nuts. Poor monkeys 🙈

In that case maybe I will wait 10 years or so😄

Hi Tall Allen. I have also read some anecdotal evidence on line (might not be reliable) from a Palm Beach County urologist claiming to see elevated PSA levels in men due to COVID vaccines. Have you heard and/or read anything about this at all? I can't seem to find anything 'official' on the subject. Appreciate any intel anyone out there might have.

I've heard that doctors are seeing more progressed patients now because the regular visits were put off during the pandemic. With over 90% of the PCa-age population being fully vaccinated, how could they possibly attribute the PSA elevation to the vaccination?

Of course! That makes total sense. This chap (Dr. Rubinowicz) recommends delaying your PSA test a few weeks after your most recent COVID-19 vaccination and/or going for a second test if you and your physician are concerned about a false elevation. I was just interested, as GG's PSA was slightly elevated after his last vax and I was wondering whether there was any corrolation. It would seem not! Probably just a complete coincidence. Thanks so much for replying.

I had RP in October 2018. PSA has been 0.03 or less. My February 15, 2022 PSA rose to 0.09 after I had Covid in late January 2022. I found this article in NIH about rising PSA with those who had BPH. My surgeon wanted to refer me to a RO but after I showed him the article we decided to retest in 3 months. My theory is that what ever residual prostate tissue remained was affected by Covid. Anyone have a similar experience?

In the article PSA tripled with Covid then returned to previous levels after 3 months. Thanks

At 5/2022 PSA went to 0.12. RO decided to treat. Had 37 external beam treatments that ended 8/18. RO added Orgovyx for 8 months from 6/5/2022. Happy to report that PSA dropped to <0.02 undectable in August and November blood work. I have one more month of Orgovyx. Happy with the outcome.

The cancer is sticky so only time will tell. RO said that you are considered cured when you die from something else.

I hope that helps you.

Interesting to see how this goes. Dave had covid in December then psa rose in Jan and again in Feb. Post RP July 2020 Psa was 0.03, COVID Dec 2021 then Jan 2022 increase to 0.05 then Feb 0.07.We will do march bloods. I know we have a way to go for PSMA detection so no need to tell me that. Vic ☘️

Same situation for me. Check my reply to Jaybee and GG.

I think residual prostate tissue will be affected by Covid. Retest in May.
