Does exercise before a PSA test cause an increase in PSA?

I think most of us are aware that sex and a DRE before a PSA can cause a temporary increase in serum PSA, which is why it is recommended no sex 48 to 72 hours before a PSA test.

There are also recommendations to avoid exercising, especially bicycle riding before a PSA test.

Does that just apply to bicycle riding, or should brisk walking and other exercises also be avoided before a PSA test?

Curious what people's thoughts and experiences are on this.

Thanks

Only bicycle riding, because it directly impacts the prostate. Other exercise is fine.

is that still true if prostate has been irradiated (EBRT + Brachytherapy in my case)?

I have recently completed SBRT and have 4 months remaining of a 6 month course of ADT. Besides the impact on a PSA reading, are there other reasons why cycling would be ill advised during treatment?

We’re walking the same dog here! I posted a similar question a few days ago and will have (what I feel) is a pretty concrete answer tomorrow! At least in my mind!!! Retested today after no sex, physical work nor gym for 60 hours prior to blood draw verses all the above within 12-18 hours before the previous test! Wanted 72 hours but when you go with out for................... its hard to pass it up!!!

I’ll let you know!

I went from .8 to .7 with 60 hours of abstaining from sex and exercise! Did do some kind of light duty work! Was hoping for a .6 or lower but...!

Quite honestly I had PSA testing both without a very vigorous HIIT workout and post workout and saw no difference in results. Seems cycling may or may not effect results. I would avoid a long distance ride the day of, perhaps.

I would also suggest avoiding heavy sets of deadlifts to failure and also back squats--if one still has a prostate.

After my previous in research I stopped anything I could think of that might effect my PSA rise especially biking which I was doing frequently. My PSA increased at the I dentist calculated doubling time as the test before it. So not sure if this applies less after radiation which I had but ...Guess I will see on my test in two weeks as life has kept me off my bike even more for last few weeks.

I first encountered my PSA rising after a ten mile run. It went from 4.2 to 7. I tested this in an exercise lab by taking blood draws before and after a 30 minute run on a treadmill. The PSA went from 3 to 4.5. Consequently I try to refrain from running usually 5 days before a PSA test.

that is a very dramatic difference

I had a urologist suggest that after having a few biopsies, your prostate my just be more permeable, and as such, your baseline my be higher now. If that is true, it could be also be true that men who have had repeated biopsies may "leak" more PSA into the bloodstream with exercise than a man who has never had 20-40 large gauge needles through their prostate.
