Update: Post SBRT/IMRT Treatment for Favorable Int. PCa

Hello all! I delayed posting any updates until more than 3 months had passed since my treatment was completed. I was originally diagnosed with Unfavorable Intermediate PCa by USCF (PSA 6.8, biopsy with 20 cores: 2 cores Gleason 4+3=7 Grade 2, right base, T2c; 4 cores were 3+4=7, 1 core 3+3=6).

Second opinion from JHS came back Favorable Intermediate, they revised the 4+3=7 cores to 3+4=7.

Dr. Gottschalk at UCSF recommended 4 months of ADT and administered 2 sessions of SBRT followed by 25 sessions of IMRT (administered by Dr. Valicenti at UC Davis by referral: I live in Sacramento). Treatment ran from June through September, 2021.

My first PSA test after treatment returned 0.3. I expected the number to be low initially, but understand it will fluctuate down the road. I will also continue with subsequent tests every 3 months. I feel very fortunate right now and am very grateful going forward for the care I received.

I did have a hard time with the combo IMRT and ADT. Lost a lot of weight due to constipation and diarrhea and was often very tired. Lucky for me it was baseball season and I pretty much watched every game I could stream.

At this point, all symptoms have disappeared. I continue to take Tamsulosin to relieve restricted urine flow that I experience without it. My weight is back, my prior energy level is back, I've resumed my 3-4 mile walks, and I have gotten approval to return to road cycling...as soon as I heal a case of Achilles tendonitis - the price of being too sedentary watching all those baseball games.

I'll update as time passes, but I wanted to thank TA and others here for the support and guidance I have received that led to the course of treatment I received.

All the best conbio! It took a little more than 2 weeks before my digestive system started getting irritated. Narrowed my meal choices. Drank a lot of chocolate Boost.
