Urinary issues post biopsy?

Question for you guys to see if any one else is suffering urinary issues post biopsy? I had my biopsy in late October and then immediately got very serious sepsis sending me to the hospital for 5 days and 2 weeks of home antibiotic infusion. About 2 weeks after I started having urinary issues - urgency & frequency urges, (which is all but torturous.) My urologist told me "it's edema from the biopsy (and subsequent sepsis) and will takes 3 months to resolve." It's 3 months today, and It's not gotten better, if anything it's worse today. Has anyone else had this side effect from their biopsy? If so, how long did it take to recover?...or, am I looking at permanent prostatitis?

Yikes! You can see why some of the top institutions are moving to transperineal biopsies. I always hated the idea of transrectal biopsies; in effect, injecting shit into the prostate. I think the incidence of biopsy-caused prostatitis is higher than anyone knows. The bad news about prostatitis, is that sometimes it's there forever; the good news is that it's usually relapsing and remitting. I hope you get rid of it soon.

yes I objected to the transrectal biopsy - It just doesn't make sense. I also asked many time for ALL risks and this was never, ever mentioned. I did ask via email if this is prostatitis specifically, and if it was permanent. He never responded to that direct question. I think it' time for a new urologist. If this is permanent, I'm not sure what I'll do. It will put me over the edge.

There's no way he can know that. For some unknown reason, Elavil, sometimes provides relief. It takes a while to build up to therapeutic levels. I hope you are able to get some sleep.

Well i had 2 trans rectal ultrasound biopsies with little discomfort in comparison to my last a transperineal from which i got sepsis and a 4 day hospital stay. WOW still recuperating 3-day out. anti-biotics for another 6 days. Initial stream still starts out with a bit of blood then gone (first 2 times cleared up in a day or so). 50% of the time it's the weakest stream I've ever had. My next doc appoint not till the 9th.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear this! it sounds like the weak stream could be from edema. do you have urgency issues as well?

not really a real urgency but the just the feeling to go more often than normal.

Resistance to antibiotics builds each time you have a biopsy. They have to try new ones.
