EBRT and Urinary Problem

I'm 72 with a 7.8 PSA and Gleason 3+4. I have signed up for EBRT starting 7/3 using the Gel. I already have some urinary problems. Interested in what other people have experienced from EBRT with Urinary or Rectal problems.

At 72 you could suffer some incontinence with RT.

Looking good! I'm about the same as you. 73, Gleason 3+,4 = 7, PSA 7.4 last July. I expected to be asked to have another test prior to treatment, but not mentioned. I shall have one before my next consultation next month though.

Ebrt in January, which was 60 Gy in 20 fractions. But not the gel, which seems quite new. The side effects were as expected, I.e. slightly painful pee which was helped with Ural sachets and some rawness around anus, but you might avoid that with the gel injection? ED - yes, but I've had that for about 20 years and it doesn't bother me now. So all the best. Lie still and good luck with keeping your bladder full or empty enough!

I had pretty severe BPH issues for well over a decade. Was diagnosed G 3+4 in March, 2018. Consulted several urologists and radiation oncologists. Every single one of them said I needed to deal with the urinary issues prior to treatment as extremely difficult to treat afterwards. I had a TURP in August and then 28 sessions proton beam therapy starting December. My pre treatment PSA was 7.44. I just had my 4 month post treatment PSA and down to 1.7 and expect to continue lower hopefully below 1. Either proton or EBRT is tough on urinary system. Lots of inflammation. I was urinating up to 28 times a day during treatment! Now 6 months later I’m doing better than I have in nearly 15 years. I am 66 years old. Good luck on your journey.

MBOY 1. How long before your treatment was your PSA? My rt was in January but they refer to the 7.4 PSA which was taken in July last year on the reports. In April it was 6.3 so jumped 1.1 in three months and I'm worried that it continued to rise until rt and the 7.4 was not accurate. I suppose the biopsy early September is the one that matters, not the PSA readings. It all started with the dre exam which detected a nodule. Luckily no urinary problems. All the best. John.

The Dr doesn't say much about side effects which I think is wrong.. I had 5 weeks 28 days and towards the last week diarrhea was horrible and painful, finally the Dr gave me Lomotil fixed that problem in 2 hrs..you will feel tired toward the end..

Good luck
