1st trimester constipation

Hi All

I am in my 10th week and I am heavily constipated as in it’s been 5 -6 days since I passed stool and my midwife asked me to consume stool softener but that’s also it’s of no use .I am having lots of fibre and drinking hot water along with some prunes consuming daily.Still I don’t find any use of it.Please can anyone sugggest any other tips .Sometimes I have lower abdomen stomach ache.So far I haven’t contacted the doctor but planned to contact on Monday if it’s persistent.If anyone knows any remedies for this issue that would really help.Thanks much for all your support ❤️

Good morning,Unfortunately it's one of the not so nice side effects of pregnancy, I always found that eating Oranges or drinking freshly squeezed orange juice helped, also warm tea or coffee first thing in the morning, you try some fibregel satchels you can buy from the pharmacy, you need to drink lots of fluid for it to work.

Good Morning, I suffered really badly with this too. Which then resulted in painful piles. I found what really helped me were Fybogel drinks(2 a day) and also kiwis. I ate 2 a day either as they are or blended into a fruit smoothie.

I’m sure you’ve heard the other usual advice but try going for a walk, doing a few squats etc…

I’ve been using lactulose syrup, it’s safe to use when pregnant. It works.

Hello, I'd really try glycerin suppositories to create an urge an go, daily if necessary. Long term use is harmless. Also please never strain as this in pregnancy outs you at higher risk if pelvic organ prolapse. Also, for some people fiber have a constipating effect so make sure you don't take too much as that can clog you up so beware of supplementing too much. And drink plenty of water at the same time if and when you do. It's important to have both soluble and insoluble fiber at at least two meals or regularly in the day as they work hand in hand. I struggle too. Not found a magic remedy but drinking kefir or kombucha helps a bit and fibre pills from Holland and Barrett. Prune juice too.
