Herpes

So my roommate has genital herpes , and I accidentally tried a bathing suit on right after her , not remembering that she had it. How likely is it for me to contract the virus ? Any advice would be great

Do you know if she had any sores or blisters while she had it on?

She did not have any at the moment

Do you know the likelyhood of it? The bathing suit also had the little liner on the crotch area

Not sure the likelihood, but it wouldnt hurt to get checked out to give you peace of mind, STI screenings are usually fast, totally painless and you should get them done regularly anyway xx

you won’t be able to get a herpes test without any blisters or sores present but you can get other sti tests xx

They aren’t usually done but will be done if you say you’ve been in contact with someone with a specific STI, Lloyds pharmacy sti tests are specifically done for people with no symptoms, GP surgery’s will also test if you ask, I had no STI symptoms but they still swabbed me for all of them when I got a new sexual partner and wanted a coil put in just to be safe, herpes is the difficult sti as it can lay dormant for years and then give you flare ups or take months to present from initial infection, so it’s still possible to get tested xx

U can't test for heroes without sores

U can pay privately for a blood test

Minimal risk if she's not in the middle of an attack and has no blisters and it was only from contact on clothes and not skin to skin, or for a prolonged amount of time. Although why you wouldn't keep your own knickers on too when trying on bathing suits 🤮 I never even imagined people would do that, imagine who else might have had them on before you 🤢

Yea it was thoughtless but it happens more than you would imagine

That's definitely put me off ever trying on bathing suits again, that's for sure. Hope you don't catch anything, but I'm sure the chances are minimal. Good luck x

Gosh me too!! I think I was a bit naive assuming everyone kept their knickers on 🤢

The swimsuit was ordered online NOTTTTT bought in a store. So no strangers put it on. The only two people who did was my best friend/roommate and I . And I still very clearly stated it was thoughtless. Thank u

Test results wont show up positive unless you have symptoms.

You won’t get it from trying on the swimsuit. The virus is passed through skin contact and doesn’t really live on the surface of stuff. Don’t stress about it.

You won’t get infected that way. It’s skin to skin rubbing that’s how it gets transferred. Even f she had an outbreak at the time it would only live on fabric she touched for a couple of seconds. I think you’ll be absolutely fine. It doesn’t get transferred through clothes, towels etc
