Nosebleeds during pregnancy, anyone else experienced this?

During the early hours of Sunday morning I got a nose blood. Was very heavy and gushing down my throat! Eventually it stopped about 30 mins later. Then it happened the following night from 3am to 3pm on and off. I ended up in A&E and they cauterised it. It’s been dripping watery snot (sorry TMI) since and giving me toothache and headache.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, as doctor said it’s common in pregnancy due to increase blood flow. Feeling quite rubbish and a bit vulnerable from it all…

I did with my first, I honestly thought I was about to die. I was lying down and the blood must have gone some my throat and I honestly thought I'd coughed up a lung. It was disgusting. Luckily it didn't carry on and I didn't need it to be cautaurised. I had one other regular nosebleed in that pregnancy and that was all, thank goodness

It was quite scary, I hope you're feeling better soon xx

Same, I was spitting out blood with clots and it was very scary. Just can’t seem to shake the headaches at the moment :(

I had a few times but never lasted more than 5 mins. I asked midwife and doctor they said it's quite common.

Oh gosh that sounds scary! I've had a bloody nose every morning more or less since my positive test and one bigger bleed at week 20. I have to blow my nose quite often everyday and there's usually a bit of blood there. I've been told it's common as well but I've had nothing as dramatic and scary as you! They said increase in hormones and blood but it sounds to me like they don't really know 😅 hope things calm down for your poor nose soon!

It’s definitely stopped now since the cauterisation but feels quite sore and like I’m bunged up and can’t breathe properly but not allowed to blow my nose. :(

Aw jeezo - sounds awful! As if there's not enough to be coping with 😅

Exactly! Oh the joys of pregnancy and the quirky things that crop up that you would not even think or know about until it happens to you. Not to mention the IVF journey to get here… but so worth it all to get the prize at the end!

I'm 27 weeks and have had nose bleeds not requiring cauterisation but quite frequent nose bleeds. I was told the same, nose bleeds are common in pregnancy.Do inform your midwife and or doctor of any concerns. For reassurance, if anything.

All the best.

When I called the midwife via maternity triage they were disinterested and said it is not a pregnancy matter. The midwife told me to continue taking aspirins. When I was at hospital A&E they said stop aspirin immediately. I called maternity triage that evening to query re aspirin again and the midwife I spoke to said I should stop aspirin. I queried why I had been given contradictory info earlier in the morning, and she was unable to answer me. It was very disappointing. Must say I’ve not been impressed with the midwifes at my hospital.

So sorry they were not helpful. It's certainly, discouraging the inconsistent quality of midwifery and healthcare in general. Coincidentally, I'm on daily aspirin, I know it's supposed to help with blood flow to the baby. As I'm over 40 it was recommended. I continue to take it despite my minor nose bleeds and will until advised by otherwise by a Dr. Probably keep taking the aspirin and closely monitor yourself. Hopefully, the worst has passed.

Thanks, I’m going to restart it tomorrow evening again as not seen any blood in the last day or so 🤞🏽 🙏🏽
