Retroverted uterus

Hello,

I had a scan yesterday at 6 +1 and they couldn’t see very much. Couldn’t even see my ovaries. They could see a sac though (pretty clearly) but without a fetal pole in it. I think they also said I was measuring 4 + 6. I’ve read lots of things about how a retroverted uterus can distort dates and also block views etc. Has this happened to anyone here? I’m kicking myself that I went for a scan so early when I have one booked at 7 weeks anyway. Now I’m freaking out.

I know my dates are right as it’s an IVF baby. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks so much 🙏

I’m so sorry lovely I know the agony of that wait until next scan well, I’ve just been through the same (unfortunately not good outcome for us after 4 scans) but all I can say is in my many hours of googling I have saw so many people say there scan was inaccurate that early with a retroverted uterus. It’s the one recurring theme! Everything is so small at that stage all you can do is wait a bit longer I’m hoping with all my heart that next scan gives you some reassurance and positive news 💜🤗 xx

Thanks my love. I’m so sorry again that it didn’t work out for you. Just devastating. I just wish I’d never gone to my first scan yesterday. Now I’m going to worry constantly until the next scan. I know you know how that feels xx

hi hifer, sorry to hear about your scan. 6+1 is v early still so sending you positive thoughts for next week. Hope this next week won’t be too rough for you - the wait in between can be so horrible. Xx

Thank you so much. Gosh it’s such a killer. Plus I’m blaming myself for going for such an early scan xx

I'm very difficult to scan as my womb moves or something, and it's always obscured, plus they can never see one of my ovaries (hiding apparently). With this pregnancy I went for a scan at about 6 weeks and they could see something very small, and a yolk sac, but not much else. I was upset as with my successful FET we saw a heartbeat at 5+2, but this is a natural pregnancy and they said maybe my dates were just off, or it's just too early, and the most positive thing was the yolk sac (I didn't have that or anything really on a pregnancy of unknown location earlier this year). Went back 2 weeks later and there was a heartbeat and everything's fine. So I guess every pregnancy can be completely different. That wait in between scans is awful, all you can do is try to distract yourself know there isn't anything you can do to change things x

Yes I’m just worried that they couldn’t see the yolk sac. The sonographer also called it a pregnancy of unknown location on my notes! Fingers crossed for more positive news at the next scan x

Have you had HCGs done? That should give you an indication of whether things are going OK while you wait for another scan. x

I’m waiting for the clinic to get back to me today. X

Hi hifer. I went for my viability scan last week ( due to recurring miscarriages) at 7 weeks 2 days. When I was scanned on stomach they could only see a sac- when I was scanned internally they managed to see a baby with a good heartbeat but measuring a week behind- they didn't seem concerned about the fact baby was behind. If I had gone to the original scan booked the previous week ( I refused to as Tommys recommendation is to scan at 7 weeks plus) the sonographer wouldn't have seen anything ( their words) At 6 weeks it is very early to get an accurate measurement as they are so tiny then and if baby is lying in a certain position or the uterus is retroverted could make getting measurements more difficult. I read plenty of success stories where babies initially where baby measured behind ( there are so many variables at this early stage) My miscarriage specialist wasn't at all concerned that my baby was measuring a week behind and instructed me to book to see the midwife. I hope your next scan goes well and they are able to see more ( as I said if I'd scanned at 6 weeks they told me they wouldn't have seen anything at all) I know waiting is torture keeping all my fingers crossed for you Xx

Thanks my lovely. I really appreciate the reassurance. I’m such an idiot for going so early! I wished I’d never gone but the anxiety is so high. Fingers crossed for good news at the next one xx

Hi!I am in same. Have retroverted uterus. Coming from IVF. Supost to have 7 week measuring 5 weeks, and they could see something very small 3,2mm, a yolk sac, maybe a very small flicker, but not much else.

I also search for good ends.

Having my next internal scan next tuesday.

Oh I’m so sorry. So they may not have seen anything at your 6 week scan either? Do you have your next scan tomorrow or next Tuesday? Will be thinking of you x
