Polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid) diagnosed at 36 weeks. Could something be wrong with my baby?

I am 36 weeks pregnant with my first. Recently told I have polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid - my recent afi was 27). Won't have a follow-up for a week to re-check levels and I've been googling and freaking myself out! So far I've been low risk pregnancy. 20 week anatomy scan was normal, NT test and all other genetic screening early in pregnancy was normal. No GD. Belly has not been measuring too big. No swelling or difficulty breathing for me. This was simply an incidental finding when checking my placenta on a recent ultrasound. Google makes it sound like this could be nothing or something very bad (like genetic or congenital defect) and that it can cause complications during labor/delivery. I've already been nervous giving birth for the first time, especially during covid-19. Anyone have success stories they can share? I'm so scared something is wrong with my baby :(

I have this too with my first, I found out at a growth scan at 29 weeks. I understand your stress but the fact that it has been identified so late, and also that it is incredibly mild means that it is very unlikely to be a problem. I managed to have a follow up with one of the top doctors in the UK who delivered Kate Middletons babies. He said it is difficult to measure fluid without breaking water and getting a measuring jug and that if the anatomy scan is fine then there is nothing to worry about. Is your baby big by any chance? He told me big baby, more urine

Unfortunately not that I’ve been told. If anything, I feel like my belly isn’t even that big for 36 weeks (maybe average). But thank you for the insight

Also worth mentioning your fluid is at its peak now at 36! Quite often goes down before labour. Mine didn’t as baby is so big but if your baby is normal sized it’s quite likely to reduce so you’ll probably get a normal birth. I’m being induced as we speak at 38! Good luck

Thanks again for sharing. Haven’t had any updated ultrasounds on baby since his 20-week anatomy scan (which was normal). Just hope nothing developed after that and we’ve missed it!
