Are NCT classes worth it?

I’m pregnant with my first baby and wondering if NCT classes are worth the money? I’m mainly looking to make friends with other expectant mums so not sure if there’s another way of doing that?

Yes absolutely. The classes themselves are ok but nothing you can’t learn elsewhere, but the friendship group you get is worth every penny.

We were messaging each other during the difficult early weeks at all sorts of hours of the day and night supporting each other.

Now our little ones are 19 months and we aim to meet up as a group once a month, and still message all the time.

Although you can make friends through baby groups like baby sensory etc, NCT automatically gives you a group of parents with babies exactly the same age who all live nearby.

In my opinion it’s definitely worth the money. X

I didn’t do NCT with my first baby and I wish I did. If I have another baby, I will definitely join so I have a community of other mums in the same stage as me for support 💕

I’d say they’re only really worth it for making friends to be honest. The rest of the information is easy to find elsewhere as someone else has said. Good luck with this new world of being a mum & having baby 😊

Super helpful thanks everyone. At what month of your pregnancy would you recommend starting the NCT classes? I’m due in May and when I looked on the NCT website there were options to join in different months so I wasn’t sure what to pick?

I would definitely do something like NCT or Bump&Baby - there are lots of other companies that run them now (some cheaper than NCT).

There is also an app called Peanut where you can connect with local mums around you.

I did baby and bump it was cheaper and also covered first aid, NCT did not. As other ladies have commented, the best thing is the mums you meet in that class, who become your local network to do baby classes, coffees and advice and support. So definitely recommend it x

I did NCT with my first and didn't think it was worth it. They give you some important info but nothing you can't find on a website or a book. I moved to a different area and didn't do NCT with my 2nd, I did baby classes and groups and I felt like I gained alot more from them and met more friends. NCT was so expensive. I guess it depends what alternatives you have in your area. X
