My midwife just called me and asked me to go in this afternoon for my first antenatal appointment (the organisation of the NHS hey?lol) and I’m completely unprepared. She was rushed over the phone so didn’t explain what we’re going to do or if there’s something in particular I should bring with me- or ask?
I’ll take my latest scan report and that’s it- think they’ll do a blood test, but will they do a scan too?
Hi, if this is just your normal 8 week appointment with your midwife they won't scan you but they do bloods and test your urine. It's quite a long appointment compared to all the others as they will go through all your medical history and any concerns etc, it is also the chance to ask any questions too x
You don’t really need much at this appointment. They will give you a maternity book to take with you to all your appointments. They will takes bloods to check blood type and sickle cell and also a urine sample to check for protein and glucose. Also will have your weight and blood pressure checked and ask you lots of questions to see if you are high risk in any areas. Be sure to tell them you have an IVF miracle, some area put you under consultation.
They just give you some info on emergency contacts and will book you in for your 12 week scan, though you won’t find out the date straight away. (I had to wait two weeks and then I kept chasing only to not be in the system yet!)
I didn’t ask many questions - mine too was a bit unorganised. I get all my info from on here!!
Hi Issy! No they won't scan you at your first midwife appointment. You'll do a urine sample, she will probably weigh you, do a C02 test and ask you a series of questions. It's absolutely nothing to worry about xxx
