Hi, I'm 17week+4 days pregnant. But couldn't feel the baby movement all the time or the baby is moving i couldn't feel it. So, is it normal? And my midwife told me to do a 3D scan. My qs is, is it the right time to do the 3D scan now or we should wait for another weeks/months?
P.S - we did TVS and there everything was normal till date. This is my first baby and I'm really nervous

It’s normal not to feel them at 17 weeks, they’re still so small with so much fluid around them, give it a few more weeks and you’ll forget what it feels like to not feel them moving around in there. You only feel the movements that push against the outside of your womb, so even at 33 weeks I can see movements on the scan that I can’t feel.
As for the 3D scan I haven’t bothered, my baby doesn’t seem to like scans (he gets really stubborn and uncooperative) and they just seem like a waste of money, but I do have monthly (now weekly) growth scans so I get to see the baby regularly, the midwife might just be suggesting it as a nice thing to do, as they’re done by private companies they aren’t allowed to comment on anything medical, so I don’t think she has any concerns you need to worry about, if she did she’d just book you more hospital scans. Good luck
Thank you. I thought is it normal or it is something I should worry about. Even my doctor was telling me about the 3D scan. But I think is it the appropriate time to do that? Because the foetus is still so small.
From the pictures I’ve seen 17 weeks is not a great time to do it, wait a few more weeks until they’re bigger and have defined features, if you call the private scan place they’ll recommend when’s best to come in
We paid for a 16 week private scan, just to settle my nerves a bit waiting for the 20 weeks scan.
We saw some 4D images too which was good, but the sonographer advised that the placenta was situated at the front which means I might not feel movement in the early part when others do.
He said once the baby gets stronger and can pack more of a kick, then I will feel it!
I read that with front placenta’s it could be any time between 16-24 weeks, but if you get to 24 and still haven’t felt anything, to raise it with the midwife again..,
Thank you for your kind reply. I think i should wait for atleast one more week
I got to 16 weeks and expected to feel movement however was advised it would be a couple more months. By 18-20 I felt the odd small, almost imperceptible muscle spasm type feeling. These eventually grew stronger and more regular but definitely came and went as baby moved to other positions. Now at 32 weeks I definitely feel and sometimes see baby move. Usually when I lie down or sit on the sofa. Xx
I'm 22 weeks and this week is the first time I've felt regular movement. I didn't feel him move at all until 18 weeks nd even then it was random and very faint but with your first it can be up to 24 weeks before you feel anything so don't worry too much at this point. It's only much later you should get used to patterns of movement, about 28 weeks.
I wasn’t sure I was feeling movement until week 20, then when I did it felt like bubbles popping lightly under the skin. From then I could spot it more easily. Now nearly 30 weeks and movements are much more obvious.
At the ‘20 week’ scan (which was actually at week 22) the sonographer unexpectedly did something with the machine that produced a 3D image and that gave a clear picture of the baby 👶😊
