I’ve had contractions on and off the past 2 days so went to get checked at the assesment unit, I’m 28weeks +4days so they were concerned I was going into early labour, luckily they think it’s intense braxton hicks as my other obs and tests came back okay! However they measured my bump and it’s measuring 35cm?! The midwife nearly fell over when she took it and mentioned growth scans but haven’t booked one as I see my midwife tomorrow anyway! Should I be worried to already be 35cm?! Xxx

I wouldn't worry just yet. Sometimes they measure wrong, and things like position of the baby can affect the measurement. If your seeing your midwife tomorrow then she will probably do it again & go from there. It isn't an exact science but sometimes they go on like it's the be all & end all 🙄
That’s what I thought! The other week when I was 26 weeks I was only measuring 28cm so it just seems insane to have jumped that quickly in 2 weeks🤣! I know it’s not the most accurate way but the midwife was so shocked it had me panicked 🤣!
Saw the midwife and have to go in for an urgent scan today to check his size! My midwife is lovely but she didn’t really question the sizing and re do it herself because the midwife who did it yesterday was one of the head midwives so I think she’s trusted her judgement! Thanks so much for the message will let you know how scan goes xx
Back from my scan and I have to be reviewed by my consultant on Monday, no excess fluid he just looks like a very big baby and they don’t know why seen as I don’t have GD and we aren’t exactly massive people either! Will see what Monday brings but they let me come home and said I shouldnt worry too much but he is large xxx
It does sound a lot, but maybe they really measured you wrong.
My last measure at 36w predicted a 90+ percentile baby. I already had a chat with my vagina that she can do it. And then I Had him on 9th percentile weighing 6lb1oz...
Haha love how you had a chat with the lady parts to coach it through 🤣! Thanks so much for your message, I know they can get it so wrong like they did for you clearly! I literally haven’t put on much weight just my bump is huge like a basket ball up my top but the midwife yesterday said she doesn’t think it’s too much fluid, in for an urgent scan this afternoon to see his growth even tho that’s not an exact either 🤷🏼♀️🤣 xxx

Glad the fluids are all right! With my pregnancy I also did not put excessive amount of weight on - like 25lbs in total that were gone week after giving birth.
I am open minded person - as I was thinking how I'll deliver this "big" baby , I also considered the necessity to possibly have a C-section, just in case I could not deal with such big boy. But as he was small, my job was , what I would call: easy. (I was 7lb2 baby , so was my partner, so I was not expecting my child to be huge as predicted. Then again - my mum's 5 vaginally delivered babies varied in size from 7lb to 9lb2 🙈)
I hope you'll have just a perfect size baby for you to deliver! ♥️
I’m trying to keep an open mind! Thanks so much for your words they’ll help me through knowing that this happened to you and your baby was just a nice weight! Me and my partner were both around 7lb when we were born and we are massive people either so they are quite baffled as to why he’s seems so big 🤣! Time will tell! Xxx
I was measuring beyond term at 29 weeks and it turned out I had severe polyhydramnios (excess fluid). I’m sure your midwife will remeasure and suggest a growth scan, and probably a test for gestational diabetes. It may be nothing, it certainly isn’t an exact science, but a tool they use to help identify where further scans/tests may be required. I hope all is ok. Xx
Thankyou so much! I passed my GD test last week so we know it’s not that, they are scanning me today to see! The midwife didn’t remeasure me but booked me in for a scan as it was one of the head midwives who measured me yesterday so I think she’s trusting her judgement. They did mention about excess fluid but when she felt my bump she said it doesn’t feel like I have too much fluid🤷🏼♀️ So lord knows! Will keep you updated xxx
Good luck. My bump was obviously excess fluid as it was really solid and hard to feel baby. Keep me posted and if you do have polyhydramnios feel free to message me. Xx
Back from my scan and I have to be reviewed by my consultant on Monday, no excess fluid he just looks like a very big baby and they don’t know why! Which has me panicking! They said it looks like he weighs 3lb 5oz already! Will see what Monday brings but they let me come home and said I shouldnt worry too much but he is large xxx
Week! My little one arrived at 35 weeks and was 8lbs 8oz. Heaven knows how big he would have been if he went to full term! No wonder I was so uncomfortable with him and about 4 litres of fluid!! Glad everything seems ok. Try not to worry too much. Xx
4 L? Omg - that's so much!!!! I hardly had any when he was born... My bump was my baby - I could carries his back and during Braxton Hicks I nearly could see his body sticking out being squashed in a ball.
It was a huge amount of fluid. That was after having 3 litres drained 3 times over a 6 week period too! I was really worried about my waters breaking, but when they did it was only a trickle at first. I did totKly flood the delivery suite though 🙈
Thanks so much I’m trying not to worry too much and hopefully my mind will be more at ease with a few more scans!🤞🏼 Xxx
I never got measured so can’t help with what measurements are normal as I had growth scans with my daughter due to my son being small birth weight. I also thought I was going into early labour at Easter it turned out to be braxton hicks but very strong ones! The midwife said not all braxton hicks are painless or mild. My daughter ended up being 4 days over due!!! Hope that can give some reassurance that it didn’t make her come early ( we were worried!) Speak to your midwife hope she can offer growth scans if she’s concerned about the measurements. Keep us posted & rest up xoxo
Aw thank you so much Jess, how are you and little lady getting on?
That’s good to know about the braxton hicks! They’ve basically said the same to me about them but just to keep an eye but hopefully like you he won’t come too early! I’m booked in today for a growth scan so will let you know how it goes, I know it’s not an exact it’s just scary when they are panicking and concerned and I’m here thinking I’m going to have a 1stone baby🤣! Also sick of people asking if I’m having twins🙃xxxx
Im okay thank you little lady is just getting over sickness bug had the dr check her over this morning. I think she caught it at our post natal check so much about. She’s now smiling, started talking coy is her favourite word & laughing so very cute maybe I am bit biased 🤣
How did the growth scan go? Hope it went well xoxo
Glad you are well, sorry to here little lady has been poorly but at least she’s on the mend! How exciting she’s smiling now bet that’s the cutest!
The scan was interesting, I don’t have excess fluid but he is already measuring 3lb 5oz! They said he looks like a very big boy so are a little concerned as to why but I have a review with my consultant on Monday and they said they’ll come up with a plan there, I’ll probably get rescanned by her that day and take it from there just a scary thought having a big baby but I know it’s not an exact it’s a rough idea and they can be wrong so 🤞🏼Xxx
Thank you. You have all this exciting times to come it’s amazing being a mum 😍
Try not to worry too much about the size they can induce you earlier if they are worried or even offer you a elective c section if appropriate.
My little girl always measured bigger she was mostly at 75% mark for growth scans. At 27 weeks she weighed 2lbs 7oz. My consultant was concerned if I went overdue no more than 12 days ( he didn’t think I would as she was so engaged at 38 weeks) little monkey went 4 days overdue- when I booked induction as instructed by consultant she came that night 😂 She weighed 8lbs 14 oz at 40 +4 she wasn’t as big as i feared her to be! My hubbys family have ten pound babies 😳😳😳 I hope that can offer some hope baby might be not as big as you are worrying!
You’re in safe hands with the medics they will do what is ever best for you both. Good luck for Monday hope it goes well let me know how you get on.
Also the advantage of having a bigger sized baby the midwife said is they are more advanced & get the hang of feeding much quicker my son took a few weeks to get the hang of it my daughter got the hang of it straight away!!! Also she slept better through the night than my son - she only gets up once then is up at half 5! My son was up 4/5 times he was 6lbs 6oz. Sometimes it’s good to have a bigger baby xoxo
Thanks so much Jess for your fab words! Feeling a bit better about things, just want it to be tomorrow and hopefully find out a bit more information and guidance as the midwife said there isn’t a lot that could be done over the weekend and at least he was over the weight rather than under it! Will let you know how I get on 😁xxxxx
Mine always measured bigger but I had put quite a lot of weight on, not just baby! He came 5 days late at 7lb 9ounces. So he wasn’t particularly big. Although go ahead with growth scans as you get to see baby regularly!
Ahh I see! I haven’t really put a huge amount of weight on which is good but it’s just so bizarre! I shall keep you updated and omg I know I’m glad I get to see his little face again💙! Hopefully more answers today 🤞🏼Xxxx
