Cat fur in borrowed cot

Hello! I've just borrowed a bedside crib (bought new mattress) only to find that it's covered in cat hair (not sure if they let a cat sleep in there?!). Is there a possibility this could cause irritation to a newborn (having c section next week). If so, will buy another one. Thanks! X

We have 2 cats and one of them decided she would take a nap in my daughter's crib whilst we were out. She shed in there so I used a lint roller in the sheet and it cleaned up nicely and my daughter was fine. Unless either if you have an allergy I'd just give it a good clean and baby should be fine. Now when we go out I turn the mattress on it's side so the cat doesn't bother.

We have cats and have had no problem. You will never know untill your little one arrives, unfortunately cat hairs get everywhere. Just get a lint roller or cello tape to get rid off.

Good luck for your c section next week, get plenty of rest and take it easy after (trust me, when I say take it easy) X

Thanks for advice! Yeah, will do best to take it easy, although also have a 4 year old so may be easier said than done! 🤔 X

I’m not sure what kind of cot you have, but I bought a second hand next 2 me crib, with the intention of just replacing the mattress. Once I got it home I found it was able to dismantle it more than I thought would be possible so the whole material part would fit in the washing machine. I washed it on a cool/cold cycle (to prevent shrinkage) and put it all back together whilst still damp so it dried on the frame, which took about 2 days, and it’s come out perfect. Is it possible for you to do this with yours?

Failing that, using a lint roller would remove the cat hairs. Or you could get a steam cleaner to give it a thorough clean. The latter is probably what I would do if, like me, either you or your partner have allergies as there’s a stronger likelihood your baby might have the same allergy. Steam cleaning would give me peace of mind.

Yes it's a next to me crib. Will have a go at taking fabric off & washing. Thanks for the tip! 😁

There’s a strip of acrylic/plastic along the front that sits inside a pocket that’s held closed with Velcro (not immediately obvious) and the front bar (for the flap that folds down) was a bit of effort to get in and out, but was possible with some wiggling 😉

There's in supermarkets the antibacterial powder you ad to baby washing - maybe use also that for peace of mind.x
