I’m an ex hairdresser and we coloured loads of pregnant women’s hair. Everyone still colours they hair whilst pregnant, I’m 1 of those. If your having bleach or colour on scalp then have too be careful, due to your hormones, if your worried I would talk too your hairdresser beforehand

I dyed my hair throughout my pregnancy and had no issues - I couldn’t have gone nine months without getting my colour done 😂

Hi

I believe the nhs website says to not dye hair in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy:

nhs.uk/common-health-questi...

I did ask a nurse/adminstrator on one of these forums and i received the following reply:

'I have had a word with my own hairdresser, and she reckons that most of the professional hair colours could be harmful if left on for a while. However, she said that if you were just having something like highlights done using foil, then the roots tend not to absorb much if any of the colour, and the rest of the hair is dead anyway!! However, “Holland & Barrett” do carry a range of safe hair colourants to use during pregnancy. They are a nationwide outfit, so I am sure you would be able to visit one fairly locally. I also spoke with the “Cosmetic and Perfumery Association (CTPA) and they assure me that hair colourants are one of the most studied consumer products on the market, and are safe for all women, pregnant or not. But if you are still concerned, why don’t you buy a chemical free semi-permanent dye such as “Clairol Nice’n’Easy”, which lasts from 6 to 8 washes. It might only tone down your roots rather than cover it completely, but better than nothing. Hope that helps.'

I'm very grey myself so need to use a permanent dye. I've been waiting and have not done in during the first trimester (scientist husband's advice). I'm now 17 weeks and am going to do it tomorrow. It's hard to make these kind of choices when advice is conflicting.

Hi, I've just had a baby girl, now 23 weeks old. I dyed my hair after I was 12 weeks pregnant. I dyed it once a month on the roots and only left on for 20 mins instead of the full time! I hate my whitr/grey hair lol.. but everything went fine for me. Hope this helps xxxc

Gives my hair a chance to be natural and a money saver, plus I think will be helpful once had baby as that’s when goes a bit crap and falls out - so I’ve been told

I never knew about not in the first 12 weeks... I dyed my hair all the way through with my now 5 year old and my now 3 year old and am currently 18 weeks pregnant and have dyed twice already.

I was told just to be in a well-ventilated room so not to breathe in all the fumes, so to speak.
