Hi all

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I normally have bleached highlights. Is it safe to have this done? Xxx

I wouldn't, just incase! I had mine dyed a few times in early pregnancy and the smell alone made me sick to my stomach. If you do get your hair done, make sure no chemicals touch your scalp directly x

Thank you! I’m having foils and I think they can put a low dose bleach on, so I may go for that instead. I’m so scared all the time and I’m only 6 weeks but it is so precious isn’t it!! Xx

Yes, of course! I was exactly the same, probably would be absolutely fine to carry on as normal but as you say it's so precious!!

Hi first of all congratulations on your pregnancy. Secondly I asked my midwife & she said it was fine as long as no Ammonia in it-a few highlights were fine but not all over lighter colour (going darker all over was okay!) but not to dye too much in pregnancy ( maybe once every 3 months) I didn’t dye my hair until I was passed 12 weeks ( if anything went wrong I would’ve blamed myself even tho it wouldn’t be that caused it) Do tell your hair dresser you are pregnant. Enjoy 😉 xxx

Thank you! I have read that all over colour is worse as it goes onto your scalp but highlights are ok as they avoid the roots. I will speak to my hairdresser though. Thanks!!! Xxx

If your having doubts I wouldn’t because all the chemical can get into your system but I’m a big freak about these things as in I don’t even like plastic near me in the packaging because of all the chemicals .and the smell of hair dye when you ingest it is terrible I attempted to dye my hair for first time in 10 year and I was flabbergasted by all the toxic things in them I wanted to wash it out real quick but I have heard it’s fine but you do know you will have post shedding right so you will probably shed half of it all out after baby’s born lol x

Hi I waited till my 7 week scan and asked the nurse! She told me it was absolutely fine to do so! I just use a home dye but I did it throughout my pregnancy xx

I researched this when I was pregnant and found that the amounts of bleach that would be needed to have any effect on baby at all are vast in comparison to what is actually used so you’re fine. If you feel better not having bleach on your scalp then you could always do that. I had my hair bleached several times at the beginning of my pregnancy and baby was fine. My scalp however was very sensitive!

Thank you!! So glad it was ok for you 😁 I think I’m going to go ahead with it as my hair is dire at the moment 😂 xxx

Hi I would speak to your hairdresser. I had a few highlights when pregnant. My hair dresser did warn me though that due to hormones, your hair can respond differently to colour - either not take or be really poreous and go different colour. I agree with others though you must follow your gut with all things baby related

Talk to your hairdresser - they should know the best method

I would not recommend bleaching your hair while pregnant because when you provide your hair, you expose your hair and body to stress and chemical effects. But I know that many pregnant women do it, and they are doing well. When I was pregnant, I wanted to use the old curling wand ( besthairadvisor.com/do-curl... ) , but then I came across an article that it's better not to curl your hair during pregnancy. And while I was pregnant, I didn't have beautiful hair, much less curl it. So this is just my opinion. I hope I have helped you.
