I will be 13 weeks pregnant on Friday and have been prescribed clarithromycin for a sinus infection as I am allergic to amoxicillin. I read contradicting info online as to wether it’s safe - doctor has said it’s fine but I’m a little worried. Can anyone tel me if it’s ok to take? Xx

Iv read up on it hun it said it should only be taken if the benefits out weigh the risks and there's no other alternative. I'd, be the same if I was you hun. Maybe ring the drs and ask if there really isn't anything else they can give you. Hope you get better soon hun

I just took one yesterday and I’m too worried to take any more so I’m just going to try and get through it on my own! Doctors have been useless xxxx

if the dr has prescribed it you, knowing you're pregnant they will have weighed up the risks. Be aware that infections can be as dangerous, if not more if un-treated. your immune system is weakened when pregnant so a simple infection can turn out a lot worse. I'd follow medical advice personally. I had antibiotics for a chest infection when 20 weeks pregnant and was fine. double check with a pharmacist if you want a second opinion, they have a better knowledge on drugs. Xx

I had a sinus infection several years ago (not pregnant) and it was THE WORST pain/Illness I’ve ever had - it’s the reason I stopped smoking as I could barely move let alone go outside to smoke! I waited it out for 5 days before getting antibiotics and it was only getting worse at that time so speak to the doctor before not taking them, as someone already said your immune system is weakened and if the infection takes hold it’ll be even harder to treat and you’ll potentially need stronger antibiotics.
