Just wondering how long it took people to get pregnant.

My partner has children already and now I'm feeling Ita the right time for us to try..

We've been active and trying for a year and still no sign should I be worried? I'm starting to give up on the hopes of having a baby now :( I'm 23 he's a older but still fertile I think I could be the problem.

For me, it happened straight away. Literally did the deed twice mid cycle! But everybody is different. Why do you think you're the problem? You cannot be sure until you have both been examined by a doctor.

Most people will conceive within a year, but that depends on whether you have sex at the right time and other factors like egg and sperm quality, not smoking, being a healthy weight.

I'm 27, partner is 51 we were trying for 5 years before I fell. I had been on pill for a few years before trying and it took 1 1/2 years for periods to become regular, so was 3 1/2 years (if u look at it that way) he had 2 kids from previous marriage, so started to think it was me, we stopped thinking about and and I fell 😃 But the pregnancy ended with a miscarriage. But I fell 3 months after. We found clear blue ovulation tests a real help. So I thought I had been ovulating on day 13-14 or cycle, but turns out I was ovulating day 19/20. Fell first month of using tests. Now daughter is 16 weeks old, and here breastfeeding as I reply!

Don't think a trip to gp would harm though, I never wanted to as I knew he would want to take a blood test and at that time I was scared of needles. When I fell however I over came the fear, as I wanted to know baby was safe and well!

And this will sound really gross but if you are sure on when you are ovulating, don't rush up after sex to clean up. We did it last thing at night and I never stood up until morning (cleaned up what was on outside) sorry for the to much information! But I really believed this and tests are the reason for daughter being here!

Best of luck Rebecca x

Hi Hun.

Took me 2 years. That was after a failed IVF after we were told hubbies sperm morphology was 0% (needs to be 4% up to be considered normal). He was told no chance of natural conception.

He gave up protein shakes and did other bits like giving up alcohol (so did I) and we were referred for ivf. I found out I had a lower egg reserve then I should have so had a round of ivf that failed in November. I then planned my 2nd and final NHS round for April time but got pregnant naturally in Feb/march and am now nearly 28 weeks pregnant.

The whole 'just relax' advice annoys me. Ensure you aren't smoking and are healthy weights. But honestly if you are concerned see your doctor - both of you. Whatever else you are both in this together.x

I'm 31 (so is my husband) and we have been trying since June last year. We fell pregnant after 6 months (8 months after I stopped taking the pill) and unfortunately lost that baby at 11 weeks in March. Been trying again since.

I've recently been to see a counsellor for my grief after my loss and she put things in a way I hadn't even thought about - the fertile window each month is only a couple of days and you only get one shot each month to get pregnant. That's 12 times in one year. Whilst it seems a long time that's just 12 tries so don't be hard on yourself. It really made me think about it and I've started to feel a bit more relaxed about trying now.

You are still young so doctors may be reluctant to send you for tests until you've been trying for 2 years. It wouldn't hurt to ask though. Have you tried tracking your ovulation? I'm using the strips from Poundland and I've also started using the app Ovia. Some people also track their temperature to work out when they ovulate. Also, when you're in our fertile window have sex once a day or every other day - no more than that as the sperm need 24-48 hours to recoup.

Good luck on your journey!! Xxxx

Everyone is different. If you have been trying for over a year I would speak to your gp so they can do some tests etc to see if there are indeed any issues or it's just taking its time.

You could try ovulation kits to help out with conception.

I wouldn't worry, but perhaps it's worth seeing your GP.

I can't help in timing terms because I was using contraception and not planning to have a baby and still got pregnant so. However, like I say I think in general if you've been trying for a year with no luck it's worth talking to someone. Whatever you do don't just sit and worry about it and not talk to a doctor about those worries. A) there may be nothing wrong, these things can take time, and b) if there is a problem only talking to a doctor will give you an idea of what you need to do.

Just remember you only ovulate 12 times in a year, it's only 12 chances so don't get disheartened, I know it's not easy but the more you stress the harder it's going to be, take it in your stride and when the time is right it will happen xx

It took me and my husband approximately 2 years to conceive. I came off my pill and it took my body 3 months to normalise. After a year I started using an app to record my periods and ovulation. I bought a thermometer to chart temperature and I also took maca root tablets and folic acid. In the end I have up hope and we got our dog on November 3rd. I gave birth to my baby 4 days ago, so we conceived a week after getting the dog... I'd been away that weekend having a girly weekend away so my advice is to take your mind off getting pregnant. I know it's hard because it's all you want, but the minute I focused on the dog and my weekend away I fell pregnant... Stressing about it didn't help me at all. Good luck! Your time will come x

Took me two years to get pregnant. Turned out I had a low AMH level for my age and I wasn’t ovulating so ended up getting pregnant on our first cycle of IVF and he is now 13 days old xx
