4week old has reflux on gaviscon n comfort milk also infacol feeds 3-4oz every 3-4 hrs still throwing up told by doc am over feedin
Don't know much about reflux but there was a post on here a few days ago, several ladies had lots of good advice. I, personally would not knowingly let such a young baby be in contact with another child that has chicken pox. Xx
Yes you are feeding too much. A 4 week old's stomach should only be big enough to hold 2oz, and they need feeding roughly every two hours. Try feeding smaller amounts more frequently, and make sure the teat is slow-flow. Also pause every so often during feeding and gently wind him. Pausing for a minute or two during feeding will also give him chance to get his 'full' feelings (like adults eat more if they eat very quickly, because we don't always realise we are full straight away).
Also, if he is sicky, feed him in a semi-upright position, and keep him upright after feeding. Look into getting a baby sling (like a Moby or a ring sling, not a structured baby carrier) so you can keep him upright and on you, it will help reduce the vomiting.
If you were breastfeeding and you've had chicken pox before then your baby would have your immunity.
However if you are formula feeding you should avoid contact if possible. If its your other child theres not a lot of choice.
I was told a baby under 6 month who gets chicken pox will often get a milder version but they are likely to not develop full immunity and can get it again when they are older.
As for reflux all I know is to keep them reasonably still and upright for 15-20mins xx
There is guidance on the formula pack. We feed aptamil comfort. For a 2 week old of 4kg it recommends 6 feeds of 4 fl oz per day - or you can feed less but more often. Our 3 week old happily takes 4 fl oz per feed, and we've been told that is fine (he lost a lot of weight after birth, so we have worked hard to put weight back on him). It will depend on how much your lo weighs though.
If your GP thinks feeding less will help with the reflux then it might be worth a go. For Aptamil comfort they recommend not using slow flow teats as the formula is thicker, so check the packet. It took us a while to get the right bottles and teats.
