Weight gain

At birth phoebe weighed 8lb 13.5oz. At 3 days she lost weight to 8lb 6, and today at 12 days she has put on over a lb and weight 9lb 7. Is this weight gain ok? HV didn't say its too much but 1lb seems a lot in 9 days. Thanks xx

Hi hun all my babies have piled the Weight on at the beginning and then gradually slowed down.i wouldn't worry just shows that you are doing a fab job xx

My baby had times of gaining a lb a week for a few weeks. I think it's quite normal. They would definitely tell you if it was problematic x

Sounds fab to me, good work mama! Has your health visitor marked her weight gain on the percentile chart in her red book? Generally so long as baby is following a growth line then weight gain is deemed acceptable - although if you're breastfeeding her a big spike in growth is common early on which will slow down.

Health visitors are supposed to be moving away from constantly weighing healthy babies these days (although lots aren't!) xx

thts fine, shes gaining weight so dnt worry, In the red book which just use as a guide, the line goes up quite fast at first and then it levels off, my son on an average month at 23 weeks now gains about 1lb 6oz a month, xx
