Can I Fly at 28 weeks?

I have been invited to a festival in Ibiza 8 weeks today. I was wondering if I am o.k to fly? I really want to go with the girls, I know I will look like a heifer and wont be drinking in the heat but don't want to miss out just because I am pregnant.

Yes you can. I flew at 28 weeks few days return flight at week 30. the flying time was 4hrs + 1 Hr (with a break of 1 hour in between).

If things have been healthy and normal so far do go - flying as such is not at all a problem. Although by week 28 you might be walking slower than usual.

Also to avoid any discomfort, drink plenty (dont forget taking decaf coffee packs on board, you would need them ).

Use flight compression socks (i used the ones till knees) and also the sea-bands were really good during take-off and landing.

Apart from that move around the plane plenty.

Its not at all a problem

Yes hun but depends on airline and you need a medical certificate to say your fit to fly has to be signed by doctor and used within 48 hours x

also most flights allow you to travel without certificate before 34 weeks - but would be good to chk the policy of the one you are flying with and anyways good to see your doctor or mid-wife before you fly just to make sure everything is ok :)

Hi Megzey

As the others have said, yes you can. I went to Thailand and the Middle East for 3 weeks between about 23 and 26 weeks pregnant and had no problems at all. You just need to try to get an aisle seat, as you are meant to get up and move around the plan every half hour ideally - though every 45 mins is prob ok. Also, wear compression socks and drink loads of water. This is to guard against the risk of DVT, which is slightly higher in pregnant women. While in Ibiza, I would just be careful what you eat. Apparently food poisoning / gastro is not harmful to the baby unless you get really dehydrated, but still, it wouldn't be ideal to get these - you'll feel rubbish, and would probably worry about the baby's safety anyway. I would also recommend carrying with you antibacterial wipes or that hand gel stuff. Have a great time! xx

yeh its absoloutely fine just get a drs certificate/note, as working at the airport I have had to turn away many women who didn't think they needed a certificate for short journeys but yeh just see ur dr and ur gd to go. xx

Hi - im due to fly in a months time - check the airlines regulations before getting a Drs note (which you will have to pay for). The airline i'm flying with said it accepts expectant mothers up 35 weeks and after with a Drs note - just make sure you take a copy of your notes with you just in case - if not only to prove your due date.

Enjoy x

I never paid for my certificate so maybe depends what area of country u r in. The big airlines at Gatwick (where I work) will require note after 28 weeks. x
