After my 12 week nuchal scan and bloods I received a call to say that there was a 1:40 chance that the baby had Downs. This threw me off guard and led me to make some difficult decisions and have to confront some tricky issues. I couldn't go through this pregnancy not knowing so I opted to have an amnio rather than CVS because the risk of miscarriage is less. This meant I had to wait until I was almost 16 weeks to have the procedure and still try and cover up the fact I'm pregnant. This is no mean feat when you also have a 10x10cm fibroid!! My boss and a few trusted people knew, in fact my boss helped me talk through my different options. So I have spent the last month coming to terms with the fact that either the results come back normal and I lose the baby as a result of the procedure or the pregnancy might not go ahead. The way I coped was knowing that I wasn't the only person this happens to, a lot of women in their 20's give birth to babies with Down's so no one is immune, I know a lot of people who have lost their pregnancies and there's nothing I could've done to prevent a genetic abnormality. Also in the grand scheme of things, it really wasn't that bad. I have a friend who's Mum has just been diagnosed with multiple brain tumours and another friend who's gran and then Dad died of cancer. Compared to those things it was just a drop in the ocean. I'm still not out of the danger one as it's possible I could still lose the baby in the next 1.5 weeks but I'm keeping positive and slowly starting to tell people the good news.
Got the results from the amnio and ev... - Pregnancy and Par...
Got the results from the amnio and everything is normal. Time to look to the future....
Bet ur so relieved that its normal such a weight off your shoulders...one of the mums from my school had an amino with all 3 of her children and all was fine ..so hopefully everything will be fine...I have my fingers crossed for you xx
Thanks for your support ladies. I'm sure everything will be fine and not overly worried. It's good to know someone who's been through it and come out the other side. Amnio 3 times, I bet she was thinking oh no not again! I better start doing some reading up......
Glad everything turned out well. You can enjoy your pregnancy now.
I waited until I had my amino result before telling people you will be surprised how quickly the time will pass now. I think I was nearly 18weeks when told people by the time I finished work everyone was saying that it was the quickest pregnancy they had ever known.
Enjoy x
