I had radiotherapy to my pelvis 22 years ago for endometrial cancer after having a total hysterectomy. I feel I am still living with the consequences can this be possible. Thanks Geraldine

Unfortunately, it is possible that PRD (also known as 'late effects') can occur decades after treatment though symptoms can often be managed successfully.

What symptoms are causing you issues? Have you spoken to you doctor about these symptoms?

Bowel and bladder incontinence lower back pain. Both hips very painful

Unfortunately as Sarah said the late effects of radiotherapy can occur, and continue, years even decades after treatment.

If you haven’t seen a bladder and bowel specialist I would recommend this as they can give advice on cause of incontinence as well as what you can do to help reduce symptoms.

Also seeing a good gastroenterologist who has an interest or at least knowledge of PRD is so helpful in order to ensure anything that can be treated has been identified.

If you haven’t seen a physiotherapist I would recommend one who specialises in pelvic health as they can also advise on bowel/bladder/hip pain.

There are also late effects clinics in some areas who from my experience are amazing at identifying late effects and helping people to manage these symptoms.

Then there are pain clinics if your pain continues after all of the above have checked you over and diagnosed the issues. These clinics often have a range of professionals involved who can support you to improve your quality of life and well being and provide you with more tools to help you manage your pain and it’s consequences.

Thank you so much for this advice and yes I have addressed some of the issues. I have IBS AND DIVERTICULOSIS WHICH MAKES MATTERS WORSE But I am still in the land of the living. 🥰
