Loperamide oral (liquid) discontinued !

I have relied on this for many years as I can take small doses therefore reducing risk of constipation however this is discontinued in UK. Is anyone else affected by this and if so what is your solution? I can only think of buying Instants and breaking them up but not ideal.

Hi thereI also rely on these. I didn't know they had been discontinued. They are still selling them on Amazon & I have only just recently bought a few boxes, at a great price too.

Hopefully we'll be able to still get these.

All the very best x

apologies I should have said oral syrup which is the liquid form so much easier to take smaller doses.

Savers do these for £1. While the website describes them as capsules the box calls them tablets for they might be suitable to break into two. savers.co.uk/Health-%26-Wel...

When you say buy Instants, you should be able to get these on prescription. Medications required for the treatment of cancer and its effects are covered by the Medical Exemption Certificate.

Hope it's OK to write here so long after original post. I am going to visit my daughter in France but without the liquid Loperamide a doctor found me a tablet form that can be halved/quartered. Because I don't have any diagnosis for my diahorrea my travel insurance does not cover me for this problem /disease. This is not because I haven't asked frequently about this Diarrhoea. Even when I mentioned radiotherapy may have damaged my bowel I was just told 'may have'. No further tests to find out.

Hello. Why did they discontinue it? Maybe your Dr knows of something that they can prescribe for you. I'm in the USA and I don't know what I would do if they discontinued it here.

I didn't know the oral solution had been discontinued, I've been taking Galpharm 2 mg capsules (not the instant ones) which you could break open. Did your GP tell you why its been discontinued

The manufacturers have discontinued it. You may find that this will start to become apparent in the US as stocks deplete.

I’m going to email the PRDA and ask them to contact the manufacturer on behalf of those of us who need the liquid. Can’t hurt.

I spoke to my pharmacist who said it was discontinued in October so just had existing stock. What a good idea. I did think of contacting manufacturer but thought there would b little chance of a reply!

I second that. CLA1974. My local chemist suggested it might not have plenty buyers therefore not financially lucrative for Pharmaceuticals. (my words)

I had a recent appointment with a biofeedback specialist who recommended asking the pharmacist for loperamide tablets rather than capsules. They are scored so you can split them in half so that at least allows you to take a half dose as compared to the standard capsules.

I’ve been caught by the recent discontinuation of Normacol too - there’s no direct equivalent to that so it’s been back to square one trying to find an alternative. It’s so frustrating!

I have been able to get Norimode tablets which are prescription only. The tablets are small but scored so can be split. This is really useful as I often taken smaller doses more frequently which suits me better. Such a nightmare when medications are discontinued with no obvious replacement.
