No I will have a small baby by then so definitely don't want the fuss And if they are still doing testing we can't afford it family of 6!

My relative travelled and paid Β£120 each way for testing we don't have that for 6 of us

I have decided not to renew my passport, and to holiday only in the UK. We have a beautiful country and our hospitality industry desperately need our support! My granddaughter (4) adores the garden and we have bug hotels and a "pot pond". She is also choosing flower and vegetable seeds with me to order, can start some off in a couple of months so its coming soon! It's all cheap, they love it, it's educational and you end up with tasty veg which they will eat because they grew it! Win win! xx

Aww we grew veg last year Well lots of potatoes I'm new to growing but my kids really loved it and unfortunately I think our carrots And onions got forgotten about I'm hoping they will resprout as I think we have missed it now.My son kept coming in saying something has grown and I kept getting side tracked lol as they were planted late and come up late x

Skye and I loved dwarf and runner beans, tomatoes, courgettes, chard and we grew a cut and come again lettuce with romaine type leaves that was very successful! We also grew flowers for cutting: cosmos is very good! Have fun with it all and good luck with the baby πŸ‘πŸ˜˜ xx

Firstly congratulations on your new addition to the family. We didn't go on holiday last year and I doubt that we'll be going this year either, the way things are going. There are plenty of good ideas online for inspiring gardens on a budget. I'm going to try upcycling containers and hopefully grow stuff from seed. I get the Modern Gardens magazine which has lots of God ideas- I think it might be available online too. Look forward to seeing some photos of your garden when it's done.

My wife and I have never had passports, holidays only in uk..... we went to Jersey(Channel Islands) for my 60th birthday, my wife says we went abroad for our holiday, because we went by airplane...... no holiday last year, and no holiday for the foreseeable future. πŸ˜•

Here fairy gardens are popular with kids. Little miniature gardens planted with the fairies in mind. Tiny growing plants that are fairly inexpensive. I often use rosemary plants as trees etc. you can make fairy houses out of scrap wood and paint them. Look it up online. There’s a lot of stuff on them. They can be done either in the ground or in containers. I’ve done a lot of them.

Aww I'd love to see them I've seen a few online just need to find what patch I'll be having for the kids to know where to start tbh the whole garden is mainly for the kids but we have a trampoline what needs to go so I was thinking of doing a sand pit there

Same with us we missed out last year and perhaps we might book something later on when things are more settled.

I watched it on video and it looks like France!

Not sad at all Afrohair. I think it's sadder to assume that we'll be able to go away again by summer and I think it's a great idea to make your garden the centre of your 'staycation'. I find that kids will happily entertain themselves with a paddling pool and you could set up a corner that's a 'beach' with seating and a table and umbrella. If you can cover it safely to keep it safe from contamination, play sand goes down well too, and can usually be bought from building merchants as well as garden centres and online, and buckets, spades and seaside shapes are always welcome for moulding and building sandcastles. If you have a barbecue, you can always have meals outside as well as packing up picnics to be eaten in the garden. There are other embellishments depending on what your budget is, like plastic palm trees or artificial grass, and if your garden isn't all that 'floral' already, maybe you could also use planters of annual flowers as a perimeter for your beach. Have fun!!πŸ–β˜€οΈπŸšπŸ¦€

What flowers bloom all year that would be interesting to hear

in reply to Afrohair

Hi Afrohair, There aren't really any flowers that bloom throughout the year. Each one has its season and then takes a rest, or takes one year (annuals) or two years (biennials). The perennials are the ones which pop up every year, but do still take a rest. There are also evergreens, which are fresh and green the whole time but may never have flowers, or have them seasonally (like roses). My favourites for a cheap and pretty summer display for planters or pots are the annuals, which give a blaze of colour throughout the summer months but then die. You can buy these quite cheaply from garden centres or even supermarkets sometimes as small plantlets in late spring, and enjoy them through until late summer or autumn. I hope that helps!

Fake ones it is then lol every time I've planted them hubby mowers them up I almost forgot about that he sees them as weedS and Grasses where he grew up I think he just saw those things as a pain and nothing beautiful in them I did a great border what kept sprouting back one year but every time grass over grew he mowed it all I don't want to keep buying

Dear Afrohair,

How to 'do up' a garden, for Kids.... Well, for a Start NO Breakable Ornaments. Plenty of space for Water Play- Not this time of year thoughπŸ₯Ά. A Swing Set, not that expensive- get one that 'Anchors' WELL into the ground. Somewhere to 'put' a Net up, just a short one... for 'Badders' or similar. Make space 'Near A Tree', for 'Johnny's Garden', put in some Pretty, Fragrant and Non-Toxic Plants (ask at the Garden Centre)- Lavender is always good.

IF you have space, a Patio Area, fun with a Football and 'somewhere' for the Barbeque too. If you have a 'Spare' corner... Some Joke, I know, you need a shed and some Flowing Water too. Once ALL That is in place, get a Rotary Drying Line and maybe some Garden Chairs (plus Table?).

OK you have used EIGHTEEN TIMES, the actual Space that you have.... so maybe the Washing Line 'Doubles' as the Net, Johnny's Garden is two Pots, the Water is a Paddling Pool and the Shed, is a cupboard in the House, the Swing Set is at The Park- But, It's a Start! By the time you have a Dog......

Good Luck, and Happy New Year 2021.

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚Hi love thanks so much for the comment space isn't much of an issue our garden is quite big we have a swing set in planning to paint and redo the seating they have a play house already they had a trampoline but that's going tomorrow just need some kind of upkeep to make it attractive and need to redo the patio area I think the seaside idea was good.they can't play ball as it goes over the neighbours too just want it to be more attractive and inviting thinking to paint the fence a nice colour x

Dear Afrohair,

A thought has just 'Struck' me.... it didn't even Hurt either! At our Church, which I 'miss' tremendously, we had a 'Spare' room- at once stage a Choir Vestry. All the Cupboard Doors, and Radiators, were re-painted Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo (as close as we could find) and Violet. This 'Rainbow Room' was then re-dedicated, as a Children's Room.

Perhaps your Fence could be similarly painted? Asides from being, far more, colourful- it can teach the Colours too, you can add 'Extras' if you want. It's a Shame that you are Loosing your Trampoline though, it Teaches Very good Co-Ordination. (unless, of course it's Kna, knack, erm Worn out!)

Some simple Stepping Stones, or logs- maybe leading to a 'Den', might be an idea. Get Power Supply, even a Battery one, so some Coloured Lights can be Put Up. I have a Portable USB Supply, that uses 4 AA batteries. (I have a Multi coloured Rope Light- that I use it at Christmas, and it does 'Run' on a Portable supply... a bit 'heavy', on the batteries though.)

Maybe a Potting Shed, where seeds can be Sown, then Planted Out... try Sweet Peas, I 'did' them myself, some years back.

Why not ask the Children themselves, for ideas... Ok if they want a 'Tree Walk, complete with Zip Wire', maybe persuade them to 'Settle' for a Rope Ladder. You never know, they might surprise you...in a good way, I mean!

One of my sisters, who only had a Small Garden, Scrounged the old Butler Sink a neighbour was removing. What a lovely children's 'Pond' it made......

Just a few more Ideas, for you, Afrohair.

My niece had the old fish pool liner from her next door neighbour and scrubbed it clean. Dug a hole to put it in next to the patio and filled with water. She then bought sand and made half the patio into a beach. She then found or was given bits and pieces to do with the seaside, cheap bucket and spades, shells etc to make beacn scenes. She also had figurines to do with relaxation, fishing etc. I bought her a gnome sitting on a deckchair sipping a cold drink. You get the drift. The kids loved it and had masses of fun pretending to be by the sea playing with the various things cost her very little money for all the joy it gave.
