Part of tonight’s dinner was the agaricus Augustus mushroom. The Prince. I found it on my bike ride today and had to ride one handed on the way back. They come out in the summer and are fantastic.
I made a roux and poured it over the broccoli from our garden.
My wife found one last year as big as an umbrella. The biggest I have ever seen.
Isn't it wonderful what one free hand and a bicycle can accomplish?

Wow, that's big so it's no wonder you rode back one handed. Is the flavour the same as an ordinary mushroom or is there a distinctive flavour to it?
It certainly distinctive. Smells and tastes faintly like almonds.

They are very tasty. We are in an area rich in mushrooms. All different sorts that we have learned.
Going out to pick them during our winter is a favorite pastime for us.

Yes it is. I have the regular kind though.

You certainly do live in a fascinating area daveh121. How fabulous to come across a mushroom the size of an umbrella! The biggest I've seen here would allow a pixie to sit underneath it! The one pictured is quite substantial. Pity we can't share the taste with you too!
I agree. It has always been one of my favorites since it comes out during summer when not many other mushrooms are out. We fry them sliced thin in a pan with butter. Just perfect.

As best we can. Mushrooms are a big thing here. Fish, mussels, wild plants and all are also good.
