Quotation for Saturday 20th June 2020

Hi everyone,

I always feel nostalgic on Midsummer's Day. There's a sense that, already we have reached the zenith of the season, and that from today, although imperceptibly at first, the days will begin to shorten again.

This year the feeling is especially strong, as it feels as though we've been partially robbed of our enjoyment of summer.

I have to remind myself that there is still lots of summer left and to hope that we will increasingly get to enjoy what's left of it a little more.

With that in mind, here's my quotation on summer, for today.

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time". -John Lubbock-

I completely agree!

Enjoy your day everyone🌈😊

Lovely quote. Yes, Midsummer Day marks the Changing of The Seasons. People all over the world have honoured this day since ancient times. It was also associated with midsummer bonfires, courtship and fertility rituals.

You are right, though, many of us will feel we have been robbed of our Summer this year, even though the weather was wonderful in May.. For me Midsummer day is a symbol , unfortunately, of the days growing shorter from now on. As you say, we should do our best to enjoy the next few months of Summer and try to take each day as it comes. Lovely picture too!

What a lovely photo and great quote. As someone with health problems I have to rest a lot anyway, despite wanting to get on with things.

Enjoy your weekend. Xx

We decided that holidays for this year are a write off for us and won't be booking any for now but we will keep the door open should things change in the future and see about it then.

We will perhaps see about some day trips though and then think about holidays again but I was sorry for the poor people who had booked in advance for this summer and were really looking forward to them only to be told they are cancelled!

I feel back in March it was a wise move of myself and my sister in law to decide that the Sunday lunch out on the 15th due to the way things were going with stuff getting cancelled hand over fist that we would make it our last one for a little while to save ourselves the upset and not bother for the time being and concentrate on events that weren't cancelled like reading and online learning.

Oh, I absolutely love that, just reading it places me there and a calmness falls all around me. It's as if, I can even smell the fresh air. 🌳🌼

So are we. We are really thankful we never booked any holidays after last February when we had a weekend in Exeter just before all this kicked off and had said how it was going to be our last weekend away for a while before this officially kicked off and how right we were!

I'm looking forward to having lunch sitting in a cafe hopefully very soon and going out for days as well then see about holidays.

I know it can really hurt when you are really looking forward to booked holidays booked in advance only to have the plug pulled on you at the last minute!

Oh I totally agree with that one Hidden , very good. There's nothing better than listening to the water, birds singing and grass blowing in the breeze on a lovely summer's day.

Also, that photo is beautiful, my kind of shot.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Alicia :)

It might well be Sara-2611. Can't say for sure as it's a stock photo from Unsplash and that has a lot of international contributors, but it's certainly a charming looking little bridge and stream.

I was sorry when I heard that the millennium centre is shut until 2021 at the earliest as its nice there!

Yes I am based in Cardiff City.
