Needing dental treatment

I need dental treatment and I’m very nervous about going. The close proximity of someone looking in my mouth really makes me quite anxious. I have PMR & GCA. I’m currently in 9 mgs of pred. I really would appreciate some feedback on your thoughts.

Hi Reddev,I believe thinking about something upcoming that's unpleasant is much worse than the reality of actually doing it. So I'd say screw up your courage and go and do what's needed anyway. So many dentists now are aware of the deep fears some of their patients have with regard to dental treatment that they pull out all the stops to put you at your ease. And if you stop to compare, isn't the fear and pain of treatment of much shorter duration than suffering weeks and months of pain when you go untreated? Best wishes and I hope you manage to get through with this successfully.

Thank you. I’ll try and pick up the courage and make that phone call.

Thank you. It’s just knowing your keeping yourself as safe as you can then I’m putting my self at risk. I’ll pick up the phone.

Because I've had so much dental work done over the years, Reddev, my worst fear was having to see a dentist during Covid. As life would have it, a crowned lower tooth became problematic and I tried to ignore the discomfort for a couple of weeks. When I could wiggle it over the gum, I knew I needed to see my dentist. I called ahead, expressed my apprehension because of highly compromised lungs and was reassured by the precautions put in place by my dentist and her staff.

I was scheduled for the 1st appt of the day and there were new additions to the office..air filtration, sign in, etc as well as new implements and tools used by the dentist as she worked to remove the crown and treat the tooth. My dentist alternated examining rooms so that when I left, my room could be thoroughly cleaned before another patient came.

In my case, the dread and fear beforehand were far worse than actually going because the dentist and staff were well aware of concerns and wonderfully prepared with additional safety measures for all concerned. Her office was probably safer and healthier than the pillow I willingly rest my head upon each night. Good luck.

I we t last week and are due again on Thursday. Every precaution was made. Had to stay outside until my turn. Hand sanitiser as soon as you walked in the door and temperature taken. My as, was only removed whe she was actually examining me. You could tell that everything had bee sanitised as the surfaces were still wet. The dentist and nurse wore mask and visor. They signed everything for me and payment by card only. I don't think they could have done more.x

Thank you. That makes me feel a little more reassured. After trying to stay safe I now feel I’m putting myself in danger. I do know they try their best. Again thanks

Hi there , I have been for dental treatment during the pandemic, those who are doing it are taking all reasonable precautions . Take the oportunity while you can it could be some time before that service returns to normal.

I can tell you that it is quite normal to be afraid. I visited my dentist at the time of the pandemic for getting a broken denture (emergency-dental-365.com/pr... repaired. It scared me the most as it was pandemic time and visiting a medical professional would be unwise with respect to the virus which was spreading. But it was a medical emergency and I had to go regardless of my fear of COVID. I would suggest you get medical attention as waiting and holding it would make it worse. Even though he was my family dentist I was scared as we all were pretty scared to step outside. But if I hadn't done what had to be done, I would be in a much critical stage not being able to eat or talk. I can assure you, that you will get through with this with no problems whatsoever. Wish you good luck and please do let me know how it goes.

Yes it went well. Felt as if my dentist made it as safe as possible. Still worry about this Covid but we all are. Thank you
