Our granddaughter who will be 5 at the beginning of next month has a cold, don't know how she got it though as she's hardly been out. They did go to a toy shop last week so I expect she touched the toys and then her face.

Anyway, she's getting better now but when she was quite poorly with it a couple of days ago (she can get quite poorly even with a cold as she has JIA and is on immuno suppressants) she said to her mummy and daddy 'am I giving you Covid', this made my heart break. This shows how Covid is affecting even the very young.

I found this heartbreaking and sad.

Please stay safe all.

HiI'm so sorry your granddaughter isn't too good. Yes, I do find it heartbreaking as you do when she said am I giving you covid-19? Very sad how covid-19 is affecting even the very young about how they think about it. I hope she gets well soon xxxxโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’œโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ

Thank you Lynne. Fortunately she's getting better, she was sick today but that's only because she's so bunged up.

I don't think we realise how it's affecting the little ones, I was shocked when my daughter told me.

Thank you Lynne and I agree and her mummy and daddy are very good with the girls explaining things to them.

I messaged my daughter this morning and little one is much better but my daughter now has a sore throat, as my daughter has said, she's shared the love๐Ÿ˜‰.

I'm so pleased her temperature has gone done and she's much better.

I find that so sad, your granddaughter should be playing games, colouring in, drawing and not thinking about covid, I hope she feels better soon x

in reply to Jennymary

I agree, it's surprising how much they pick up when so young. Thank you and she is getting better xx

It really is but you are right it shows she's taking notice and is understanding.

That sounds like a good game,I'll keep your post and pass the info. on to my daughter.๐Ÿ™

I'm sorry to hear this cf, bless her but there are bugs everywhere unfortunately, especially at this time of year. I hope she feel much better very soon and I can understand your upset as she is quite vulnerable being on immunosuppressants. xx

in reply to springcross

There really are, the strange thing is she's not mixing with anyone so we're surprised she's got a cold. Yes unfortunately she is and her mummy was unable to give her the Humira dose this week because of her temperature. xx

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to

That's the problem with immunosuppressants and infections, hopefully she'll only need to miss that one and be able to have her next one. Hoping she'll be back to normal very soon cf. ๐Ÿ™ xx

in reply to springcross

Thank you and I appreciate your response. I e messaged my daughter and she's restless again tonight xx

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to

These things tend to rage a little bit for several days (they have an incubation period of a couple of days don't they) then about a week or so of heavy symptoms before they wear off but she is immunosuppressed so things may be a little different - I'm not sure about that cf. I hope she feels much better tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™ xx

in reply to springcross

They certainly do and she normally copes really well bless her. Mummy and daddy are amazing so she's getting plenty of cuddles.

Thank you xx๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿฅฐ

I understand completely Alicia, before the schools closed for Christmas, I was picking my grandson Frank who's four, from the station, gelling his hands, taking him to school. Then when picking him up from school gelling his hands, then before we go into my house gelling his hands again. It became so natural to him it was part of life and he would put his hands out before I asked which is quite sad, well it was to me. xx

in reply to Bazzak

You are right on what you've said and it us sad. When the girls get home from school the go to the sink and wash their hands before doing anything else. When all this is over they'll still be in the habit if constantly washing their hands. xx

Hi Alicia I've only just seen your post so sorry about your grandaughter and lovely photo of her beautiful and happy little girl on there, and she will be laughing again like that soon, I know what you mean about COVId effecting children my niece's son had problems after summer Holliday's he couldn't settle at school or get into sport like he used to love and wanted to stay close to his mum, he is ok now though, but he did get the virus but has recovered,on my job one day I had to pick a very young boy up he had a mask with him and he insisted that he put it on and himself, and when I collected him from school he still had the mask on, it was so sad to have to see that, but he was very cherpy and quite independent and wouldn't let me carry his bag bless him,he was actually a foster child I remember that day well there were 2 children in the taxi and the little girl a few years older was real funny kept telling jokes and we all had a right giggle, some of the jokes sounded familiar ๐Ÿ˜I was sat there with my mask Vasa on and head half out the window ๐Ÿคฏand had to step in and be bit strict at one point and tell her to stay sat back as it was getting a bit out of hand, and they were so good and took notice, children really bring out our own childlike fun side, I don't have any children but spent so much time with my niece and nephew when younger babysitting them and there children, I had no children as I had a miscarriage at 3 month's but will see one day ๐ŸŒˆand was long time ago I found comfort from been a mother to so many cats over the years ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ™€too much rambling on and it's only 4.3o lol let's look forward to happy days ahead playing in the sea like children with them hugs from mandy and pixie who's locked in kitchen now he woke up hungry and wouldn't settle ๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ’›xxx

in reply to

Thank you Mandy, you don't realise how much children pick up. My older granddaughter who's 8, not far off 9 now, understands and we expect that but not her little sister who's just about to turn 5 bless her, such a worry. She's on the mend now gladly.

It's lovely that you hear the children you pick up so happy and chatty, it is hard seeing masks on them.

I'm sorry you had a miscarriage, I understand what it's like as I had one at 10 weeks and another at 6.5 months, it is hard but you do overcome it thankfully. As you say cats are your babies as is ours who's just taken up position on hubby's lap๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a good evening.

Thanks Alicia that must of been extremely hard so far in pregnancy mine was as big as my thumb I had arful labour pains and passed it in hospital so it wasn't nice seeing it, I decided I never wanted any children in the years that came but sometimes recently have wondered about the baby and as mam is old and dad's gone I kinds thought shame I had no family of my own but I'll fill my house with cats and maby a grey pixie ๐Ÿ˜if I'm young enough maby a little cocker spaniel but think have to wait a long time as pixie is the dog of the house have a good night oh my niece thinks she got virus no taiste bad tummy and swolern glands is her weak spot her son's ok now, he's ten ๐Ÿ›Œearly night for me xxx

in reply to

It was at the time but it's surprising how you can come to terms with it,it was a little girl and I gave birth to her.

I agree re cats and any animal to be honest as they are a blessing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Niece, bad tummy would be the worst symptom for me. I really hope she gets over it very soon.

in reply to 448690

Isn't it just, who would have thought a child that was just reaching 5, she's 5 in just over a month, would understand. It's a worry as an adult let alone a child who should be having fun and playing.

She's is getting better now than you.

Thank you. You are so right, it's incredible what they pick up, things that you'd rather they didnt hear or pick up.

Hi Alicia, I think this goes to show how quickly and easily the new virus strain is spreading. It seems to me that most families now have at least one family member who is affected, no matter how careful they have been. Don't forget, your granddaughter doesn't need to have been anywhere. It can be contracted by someone, or something, seemingly innocuous, that has entered her home.It is a heartbreak and so difficult for our little ones to understand. Bless her heart and I hope she's back to normal as soon as possible!

in reply to

Hi Sue

You are right, it really does goes to show how viruses wreak havoc, it could have even been on a parcel.

I wish some people would take this seriously as sadly a lot don't.

She's getting there now thank you, she had to miss her Humira injection on Thursday but that's not too much of a problem.

I hope all's well with you.

If that story was portrayed in a Govt film advert, then it would act as powerful message for everyone to take the utmost precautions. You are blessed with a daughter who truly cares.

Thank you for your kind words and you are right, we actually need more in the newspapers and on the TV with people that have got, have had or died from COVID,people may listen then.

in reply to LittlePaws

Isn't it just Pamela, you wouldn't think a child who is just about to turn 5 would even care let alone worry about COVID, shows how much she's been listening.

I expect you may be getting your jab very soon as of course they're vaccinating the elderly at present,I really do hope you're next on the list.

Stay safe and well and enjoy cuddles with little paws.

Awww! So sweet and thoughtful at her age. Iโ€™m afraid itโ€™s effecting our very young as well as old. Sad. Praying the vaccine helps stop it. Over in USA Iโ€™m afraid lots of people donโ€™t take it serious and weโ€™re having too many large gatherings resulting in lots of cases of Covid. โ˜น๏ธStay safe. God bless.โค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ

in reply to Williemom

Really is and children of that age shouldn't need to worry, they should be playing with toys, not thinking about a virus.

Yes it's affecting the younger ones here now and we also have stupid people who don't seem to care less as if it'll never happen to them.

Please stay safe and well.

Alicia ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’œ
