Good morning beautiful horse and you look so proud I love horses but I feel I'd be a bit afraid in handling one π
he was beautiful - he died in the 90s
I'm sorry it's heartbreaking but there spirit lives on and we will always have our memories of them I have photos of all my dead cats still in fraimed hope you have a nice day πxx
oh yes i was devastated when count was put down -he was 25 which is good for a part arab he just about survived cancer then I had him & slowly built up his working then later on down the line he had twisted gut & the vet just said time to let him go
Wonderful what a beautiful memory π
oh yes certainly was
I love the idea of horseriding and cant understand why certain things are considered permissible and not others especially when you think of the mental advantages of outdoor pursuits ... however when I tried horseriding in my 30's [I'm going to be 78 on Saturday!] I was helped up and was immediately terrified. I persevered for the 'trek' and never tried again. I was on trekking holiday with my 7-year old son, Joe, and he loved it .. grooming a horse, taking him to the field and bringing back each morning. Lovely animals but terrifying up there for me!!
You have to be confident when approaching/riding a horse because they will sense a persons nervousness & they will get nervous too . I remember when I was 7 & getting advanced & went riding on holiday in scotland & you had to be 8 so we lied & told them I was 8 when I wasnt -so initially I was put at the front so the person taking us out for a ride could keep an eye on me as I was the youngest & it turned out I was the more experienced of anyone on the ride & I was tasked with going to the back & watching the others & reporting if there were issues
oh that's great .. 'my' horse wasnt nervous; whenever the trek paused for everyone to catch up, he started eating grass and I grabbed saddle. The leader shouted 'dont let him eat!' but I was holding saddle with both hands LOL x
The leader was absolutely right - It gets them into bad habits -if the horse suddenly pulls down for grass whenever stopped or unexpectedly you could fall off -even if you do hold the saddle
if the horse starts to pull down for grass then you use your leg aids to stop that or pre-empt that & keep contact with your reins at the same time eventually he will get the message that he is not allowed to pull down for grass when stood still while riding out
Lovely photo and memories.I love horses but sadly I'm allergic to horses so can never be near them.
Oh what a shame -We used to know someone who was allergic to horses & they stayed over with their family during the 70s & I went riding on the usual saturday morning & soon as I got home mum wisked me up to the bathroom so I could have a bath before I could come into contact with her
My brother has hayfever... he could ride a horse, but could not groom it!
I'm also allergic to cats
Oh dear - -some people are allergic to all sorts of animals
We've got a rabbit and I have to be a bit careful about handling him too.....although I've never had any problem with our previous rabbits.
yes their teeth are very sharp
I started riding at about 8, loved it! Too old now, unfortunately.
Cheers, Midori
oh thanks so much I was 10 when I first had count
Horses are great friends!
72 here and very stiff.
He was a very handsome gentleman!
yes his temperament was 2nd to none as my former instructor said once
Lovely photo, it's good you have them to look back on. ππ
Beautiful....i love Counts head collar, tan to. Match your jacket.. I used to ride as a child. My mother still does. I love going home to see the horses. ποΈπ€
Your happiness around horses is evident even at that early age Sara_2611. Lovely pic of you both! πππ
Oh thanks --Ive been riding since I was 7 so 40 years
That looks a big horse for a little girl!
My youngest sister was in Australia in the 1960s, and "they" put her on a horse, and she fell and fractured a vertebra.
I got to Australia in the 1970s and "they" tried to kill me by putting me on a racehorse that had been out to grass for months... but I was able to ride it, a made it canter round in a figure-of-eight until it thought I was in charge.
My eldest sister bred one-day eventers, my middle sister rode in point-to-point races, and my twin brother had a polo pony.
