Our community used to be known for being low crime.
In a two day period, a friend and I both had our vehicles rifled. No damage and nothing to steal, so there's that. So I printed this off and put it on sign stakes.

This is why teamwork is important.
I think it's always so disappointing when you've lived a long time in a low crime area and then it increases. Not to mention becoming a victim yourself. So really good thinking to put up those signs Wallowa!👍

We are a strange place. I have a friend who when she went running in the back country carried bear spray - but it wasn't for bears, it was for the one weird neighbor who had run away from another state and had not changed his license plate because everyone would then know his offender status. We had another fellow get mad at his partner, shoot up their trailer and race off into the woods, triggering a swat call. Eventually he turned himself in. We had an intra-family shooting over (kid you not) a dispute over cattle that devolved into prosecution of the only person there (a woman) who didn't have a gun. Domestic violence is high here. It's pretty, but it's weird. Small property theft was about the only thing you really didn't have to worry about - it was practically rude not to leave your wallet on your dashboard and your keys in the ignition. We do have a history of harassment issues here, too, up to and including hanging people in effigy if you didn't agree with them.
I see that paradise can also have a bit of a dark side Wallowa! 😊
